Yes. In the View menu, there is an option called View Properties, which has a button to turn the grid on or off.
Are you talking about ‘grid floor’, Ori? 'Cause that will only turn off the planar grid in angled views.
You can turn off the backdrop grid in axis-alligned ortho views, too; just set spacing to zero. (Not sure if that would screw with your grid snap though. If so you could just rotate your ortho views once and back using the keypad after setting them … 1-4-6 instead of just 1.)
