Robo3Dguy's dynamite filled cardboard box of 2D artwork

Hello.

I’m a 3D guy, working mainly in Blender. But I’ve always loved sketching on paper. Drawing with a mouse is…well…that’s just annoying. But I somehow got a hold of an old, used, Wacom Graphire 3. So I plugged it in to my Ubuntu box, opened up MyPaint and…

…practically fell off my chair. Now I really know what “pressure sensitive” means. It is just fantastic, you press harder and your lines get darker. :spin:

Anyway, now I love to sketch on my computer. So I’m going to post some of my artwork here on this thread, in hopes that I can get some pointers from you super duper skilled speedpainters on how I can make my 2D work better.

Sketchy dude say whassup.

More artwork down the page.

Thank you for viewing yet another sketchbook-type thread.

A really really rough (and un-proportioned) sketch of C-3PO.

I took quite a bit more time at this version of C-3PO. Comments or crits on what’s wrong or how I could improve?

the legs on the second c-3PO are very nice but the torso and face need much more detailing. look for a pic of him to go by

Avenger96: Thank you for the crit  Here’s a more detailed sketched (with shading too).

Not perfect, but I’m happier.

And here’s some sketches of my left hand.

For the life of me I can’t figure out how to draw my right hand…lol lol

C3PO looks alot better and the hand is awesome. Have you tried using the 2B pencil in mypaint? it is great for sketching.

Oh yeah! I love those pencil brushes, but defiantly need more practice using them right. I’ll draw something with a 2B next…whenever that happens…and upload it.

Thanks for the comments Avenger

Thanks for the comments Avenger

Anytime.

You are very talented! you just need more practice, like me lol

like me lol
Like everyone. We even need practice practicing :spin:

:eyebrowlift2:?

…never mind lol

Ok so here’s some sketches of a ukulele done with the 2B brush in MyPaint.

…and just some more doodles.

You can improve more.

Done mostly with the 2B:

That painting in Mypaint was going somewhere.
I haven’t used it, but I think you should practice with a pencil some more.
Keep it up.

I think you should practice with a pencil some more.
Pencil and paper? Or pencil in MyPaint?

Here’s a little pencil and paper sketch of a cactus thing. I’m not happy with my shadow…need to work on that.

'Nother soldier head.

And another hand. I really like drawing hands, does anyone have any good techniques for sketching them?

Great to see people doing 2D. I’m no expert, but I would say that the cast shadow from the cactus, as well as the shading on the cactus pot, need to be darker. Push the tonal range some more, at least on the important foreground objects like the cactus. I might also darken the window frame to delineate it from the objects outside the window.

Cheers and God bless.

Thank you for the tips Pompey!

Hello. Long time no sketch. That’s why Christmas break is so cool

I find that the ball point pen is an excellent medium to work with. Too bad I ran out of paper lol

This is a guy with a flat head. A tree grows on his flat head. Yeah.
