fermi 470 performance problem

hi, just wanted to ask if someone else has bad performance with a 470gtx?

mine is not able to handle 1mio polygones… yes thats right, thats how slow it is for me…

so if anyone out there has a 470 gtx please let me know if your card can handle like 40mio polys or barley 1mio. thanks

When modelling? in the game engine? in sculpt mode? when rendering? etc

What CPU and how much memory do you have?

There were some complaints over at CGtalk about the poor performance of 480GTX in 3d studio max, and I think a few other applications, so I don’t think this is just related to Blender, it could be some driver issue.

Here is the thread;

CGTalkThread(Page2)

the problem is in 3d view, it doesnt mater what mode (edit, object, sculpt,…) whenever i have more than about 300k polygones i really notice the performance going down.

thanks for the link Daniel8488, i gona take a look there…

EDIT: ah i forgot to post the other system specs… the system has a i7 920 and 6gb of ram, its brand new. we got 2 more of these systems but i had no time to test if the performance is as bad as on the current system.

Have you tried with the various drawing methods?

If not, try going through them while also trying VBO’s, sometimes they help, sometimes they don’t. I still think this part of Blender needs some serious work.

if it cant handle 1/20 of the polygones it should, i doubt the problem comes from the drawing method… yes i tried the VBO option without any change… also tripple buffering and every possible driver setting was tested… no difference in performance was noticed.

also im asking for people with a 400 card to give me feedback if theiur performance is also bad. i can not fix the problem on my system so there is no use for anyone to put any time in writing suggestions how i can fix this.

There was a how-to to get high polygon numbers in Blender, in sculpt that is… I just can’t find it.

that’s on par with my athlon x2, 2.2 ghz, 4gb ddr ram, geforce 210 system  (4 years old, except for the gpu)

it must be a driver issue, because i know it’s not fair to compare a 210 and a 470…

done a benchmark with the benchmark.blend… cant find the page anymore but here is the file in case someone cares to compare the performance…

Here’s the results for the archaic pc I only use for surfing these days = 2.66ghz Pentium, Quadro FX4000, XPpro32bit
Its well behind in render calcs but I was surprised to see the Spin rate was about the same -although the screen is smaller of course - and GL fps only half.
HTH in some way. It does seem the 470 is a little lame for some reason,

btw I think there is something wrong with the no. of threads reported - only single core actually here.

i will post a benchmark of my 9800gtx later to compare… but it has about 15fps in the first solid spin as far as i can remember which shows how bad the drivers are at the moment for the 400 series…

i think the numbers speak for themself…

hmmm how about setting the nvidia global driver setting > vertical sync > off ???
your limit seems to be 60fps atm no matter what.
dunno…just an idea…

and how would this change the solid view results?^^

i changed to performance in the Nvidia control center and that gave some improvements, still way to low for this card… and still slower than the 9800GTX

its still better then mine ,have you tried DOX drivers ? ,it ROX in Vgaming ,dont know about modelling…

Edit : in the second test where i have set the NVCP settings to performance the fps in the first part increased from that to
“OpenGL image load & free, 256x256 px : 333.6630 fps” and the rest remained almost the same why is that ?

i just added the results of my 9800GTX to the last post with the same driver and same NVIDIA control panel settings, the results are even more devastating for the 470…

did you try these drivers ? LINK

dood ,i have 9800m GS and you have 9800GTX ,is it really that much different ?
