    Multiple extrusions script

Hi this is a script heavily inspired in cinema's matrix extrude... it is far from perfect but still usable I think.
The idea is to repeat a serie of extrusions on every selected face. It works mainly with ops and can take a while in some situations. Won't update in realtime, just undo and change settings... the last extruded faces will remain selected so you can keep working on them.

Did a search and found an old script called Tesselate that should do this and more, and also Blender has it's owr extrude repeat operator -but it is kind of boring at the moment-

'interactive' version here, should work as addon also

update: wrote an experimental rigging tool to work with this script, get it here

this old one runs from properties panel and won't refresh -better for lots of extrudes-
    the orginal thread in blenderheads.org
    Have fun!

This script is wonderful (tnx) but I do not get it to work!
    I copied the folder "2:57 \ scripts \ addons (r36550 and r36734 for win32). Am I wrong in something?

    This is so much fun
    Liero, expect some pics soon
Could you make your scripts as addons?
    They are so good

just a small test, I found the script is best used in edit mode on selected faces.
trying to use on Suzanne mesh with all faces would take too long to compute/crash/restart Blender.
Apart from that, it's a great fun script.

btw, the strange purple thingy was created with suzanne,
    then your voxelize/pixelate/cubify script,
then applied to the dup cube.

Thank you! I love these scripts. More fun.

Thanks for pics! and nice one there Meta! you do keep your word :)
Got some ideas to optimize the way it manages already processed faces... that should help with big selections and lot of extrusions, will give it a go later.

As a tip you can try short extrusions -5 steps- then change settings or just use variation and extrude again to get more irregular results...

For pokeys, spikes, and tendrills, this is pretty awesome. I wonder what else this sort of thing would be good for.... Trees, of course....
It'd be great if there were a manageable way to animate these growing (keyframing the number of extrusions, e.g.).

Hi, thanks again for comments, it will be nice to have bmesh even if that breaks some scripts, it will be worth any trouble for sure... As mentioned before Blender has it's own extrude repeat operator that should make things easier, the problem is you can't rotate or scale faces, just extrude with a vector... if it gets some love from developers we could get stuff like this in a fraction of current time. Suzanne with default script settings -that means 7500 extrusions- will take 10 and a half minutes on my pc, but works almost realtime in cinema, now you can see how good I am as a 'scripter' ;)
edit: just tried this with bpy.ops.mesh.extrude_repeat(), wich unfortunately means straight extrusions at the moment, and that time went down to less than 3 minutes... so an improved native operator -and better scripting for sure- would give pretty decent results
edit: thanks Meta for the addon, it works nicely! I prefer external scripts but others will find it useful

    unFrustrated

Guys for anyone who's going to try this script out. Make sure that Auto-Merge is OFF. I keep mine on by default and was highly frustrated that the script did not work.
    nice script.

I repeat, TURN OFF AUTO MERGE.

thank you have a great day.
