Dandelions

Hello, I wasn’t posting on BlenderArtists for ages so here’s small project I’ve prepared recently for the upcoming issue of 3D Artist magazine.

Actually there isn’t much to say - very simple scene with grass and dandelion models from 3dmentor.ru used as hair particles. In general I was rather focused on testing the current capabilities of Cycles and must say that I’m impressed by the flexibility of its material and rendering systems.

Each image was rendered in gpu mode using Nvidia’s gtx 460. An average rendering time was 1-2 hours for dof scenes and less than 30 minutes for the other pictures.

Hope you like it! C&C are welcome

Great renders! Quite realistic.

the distance images are very nice, but the close-up pics are a bit low res. The petals are all flat and there are no stamens. On a dandelion each petal has a stamen.

Over all nice job.

Photoreal.

Nice, although it seems like all the grass straws carries the same texture. It would be much better if they vary, it looks reall now but… something’s not right at the same time. Fourth render is the best, closeups needs some subsurf for flower flakes. Nevertheless good job, mate!

They look nice, but some more attention to detail would REALLY sell this image!

Look at this reference for instance.

Yours are a bit too spherical, and they lack the lower half being the stem area. They also lack the thin looking split petal straw things.

Regardless, it’s a nice looking image - just needs some more detail in the model

—EDIT—
Just noticed something else! There is some grass penetrating the leaves at the base of the 3rd image.

nice render !

A great render. I like the way the flowers are grouped and positioned, very natural. The scene is dry with lots of sunshine, i would have preferred a wet rainy garden though.

This is great! Kudos artist, Kudos Cycles…

love them! nice work!
