You should be able to import them in blender.
no you can not normally, it is the binary maya file, so you need at least a trial version of maya and export it to a format like .obj

.dae and why not .obj or .blend or else? but collada / dae ist good because its a standard 3d modle format for data exchange?
Some of the objects in the maya files had armatures, hence use of .dae not .obj. If the op wants a .blend, I think I’ve done enough so they can import the files themselves.
