For now I don´t need it, as I use Blender mainly for sculpting. I can also imagine I wouldn´t use it too much for poly modeling as I´m a grab and pull guy.
Any way to hide the 3d cursor?

Although you can’t hide 3d cursor but you can disable it in User Preferences.
1.User Preferences>Input>3D View>3D View(Global)>Set 3D Cursor(clear the check box)
