Compositing: Blur Effect and alpha setting

Hi,

I haven’t done some compositing for a while. I am out of practice and have now a very basic problem.

I have a single text object.
I just want to blur it and make some color effect on it.

The image should have the alpha channel after the text is blured.

When render the image with the alpha channel the blured part is not visible. Only when the background is black, so no alpha is active.
I have attached the blend file.
What setting do I have to make to have an alpha background, but still the blured area visible around the text?

I guess its quite easy, but I just don’t get it at the moment.
Help is appreciated…

Greetings

Hi 3pointedit,

thanks for your help.
Why do I have to use the set alpha? In the Viewer-nodes, Blender knows that the image already has an alpha channel an shows it in the preview.
Could you maybe explain whats happening in the set alpha node?

Whoops I didn’t connect the output correctly. You will notice that I have added a blur to the alpha channel. The set alpha node tells the original image to use the new alpha channel instead. This is all because the first blur didn’t affect the alpha ch only the rgb ch.

Thanks for the explanation 3pointEdit!!
