Anyone know off an offset tool or alternative?

If i have a shape as shown below and i want to create another one offset, smaller but exactly the same shape. I use shift d to duplicate, then scale down but i have to manually scale the z and x axis different to make the shape match the larger one. In Hexagon there was a offset tool to make this precise and automatic. Surely theres a way in Blender. Anyone know. For now I just duplicate and manually scale until it looks about right.

Have scale applied, face in ngon (F on selected outline vertices) and inset - I.

Thanx for the ideas. I hadnt realized that the inset would do much the same thing.

You could also try the inset tool and delete the newly created face but keep the edgeloop. Shortcut: ā€œIā€. I hope that helps
