Learning to use Blender

Hi guys,

I am a user interface designer by trade, but I have always wanted to learn to model objects for video games. The problem is that I have absolutely no clue where to begin. I would like to learn to model objects, such as characters, vehicles, weapons, etc. that will be used in modifications or standalone games. Could you guys point me in the right direction to get started? Also, I have a couple of questions:

  1. Last year (or maybe the year before) I spent a significant amount of time watching Paul from Under The Ocean design and model many objects that can be found in his game. I noticed that he used some sort of digital pen and a pad for coloring his objects. Is this something that I would need to purchase if I were to become serious about modeling?

  2. How difficult is it to pick up Blender and to become fluent with modeling?

Could be useful for painting or sculpting though not necessary. Google Wacom

Some may find it straightforward, some may find it impossible, just like any other complex piece of software. Try it and find where you fall within this range
