All I have in (2.72) in the “Tools” tab is Transform, Edit, and Shading while in Object Mode, and Transform, Mesh Tools, Weight Tools while in Edit Mode. Object Tools is just much more limited than in the tutorials I’ve been watching. Help?

Have you looked in the other tabs ?
They are probably limited because the people in the videos have enabled addons in the blender preferences menu that you don’t have enabled. Most of the addons are not needed, but instead are there for special occasions (such as premade character rigs for example). If you want to use the extra tool functions that the people in the videos are using, then I would suggest either asking them what addons they use, or looking up the addons yourself.
