Glasses&books

Hi, this is my first post here at blenderartists.

This is my another exercise in materials and lightning inspired by this photo http://localmilk.tumblr.com/post/49542026158/arcanja-untitled-by-katherine-squier-on-flickr

I can’t get this great highlights in glasses’ shadows, does anybody know how to achieve this?

Thanks in advance!

Make sure you have enough bounces, and make sure you have caustics checked. Otherwise those won’t show up. Hope this helps. Looks great BTW!

Thanks, you were right, caustics were turned off, but turning them on didn’t help much. Amount of bounces is 128 for all ray types (just in case, I’m new to using Branched rays tracing), is it not enough?

Hmm, it definitely looks better, but I’m not sure how to achieve what your looking for. And 128 is enough, I normally use under 12 for my scenes. Good luck.

Have you enabled multiple importance sampling for your light source? That usually does the trick for me.

Hiya looks great, I’m just starting out as well but I’ve done a bit of research on glass for one of my models, if you are just using the default glass shader it probably wont look great it’s worth spending a bit of time setting up a more advanced one and understanding how it all works, have a look about half way down here there’s a great tutorial and explanation for setting a more advanced shader up http://www.chocofur.com/6-shadersamptextures.html and lots of other great information on that site perhaps have a look at the studio rendering piece as well http://www.chocofur.com/studio-rendering.html it dosent look to me like you are using an hrdi as part of the lighting the glass comes more alive when you have a few more reflections in it that’s covered in the studio render section.

This is the best tut I’ve followed on the branched path tracer and some excellent advanced tips on how to quickly locate noise and tweak for the most effective renders it’s subscription but there are loads of other useful courses there.

This short tut from Gleb Alexandrov about textured lighting might be awesome for your scene as well theres a vid half way down this page http://www.creativeshrimp.com/light-texture-tutorial-1-lighting-book.html

I did read a tut on faking caustics but I can’t find the link to that  hope that helps they helped me!

Thanks, ShadowCamero and Umii! I found out also that caustics in this case highly depends on IOR of glass. I’ll try to use more realistic material instead of simple glass shader.

Yes, multiple importance sampling is enabled
