Producing a 12 petal Gores from a UV projection - Sphere.

Hello All,

Im working on a project where i would like to create a UV projection of an Earth, then split this into 12 Petals. Creating a gores that i could then save as a large JPEG. I would then print this flat pattern out and make a globe using a ball and the printed paper petals. Image below is an example of a gores

As you can see from the images below i have managed to create the UV projection and create the 12 petals i would desire. So how do i flatten that data so that the petals would then make a full globe if printed out and glued to a ball? When i try it always links to the original image used to create the UV projection and then just cuts out parts of the rectangle which is wrong (Image with Orange lines)

Also, how would you save the file so the output data is of a high quality and could be print on big scale.

Sorry if this is a simple question but only been on blender 5days. If you do reply please do make thinks super clear as just getting my head around the basic.

BTW loving blender, offers so many opportunities.

Best

Edward

Use the Render / Bake options to bake the exiting material texture to a new image texture using the objects new UVs

Use high quality high resolution images for the original and new texture. Set the output size when you create the new texture. When the texture is baked use the Image / Save as Image menu to save it to disk
