Where are the posing control handles?

Whenever I enter pose mode with my MakeHuman model, the only posing controls I have are some toolbox buttons to translate or rotate or scale a selected bone.

But I watch YouTube tutorials about Blender posing and I see people’s characters have these wonderful control handles on all the limbs and joints all of them obeying IK and freely movable in space.

I have never found a viewport that shows these wonderful pose control handles. I have no idea where to look.

Can someone help me?

Add an object and select the object name for a bone the custom shape box while in pose mode to display the bone as that object
