Default "Flip to Top" for headers

I hope I’m asking this in the right place…

I’ve customized my startup file extensively and it
travels from version to version as we go along. One
thing that has always been an issue (for me) is that
I prefer the window headers to be at the top border
of each view.

All of the saved ones stay where I put them in the
startup file, but even there when I split windows into
new views or delete older ones, the headers always
default to the bottom of the new view.

Is there a way (system) to tell blender to ALWAYS
keep the headers as “Flip to Top”? Am I even asking
the right question?

I’ve written a few scripts for personal use, and I’m
sure I could figure out how to do that one with some
help, but it would really nice if I could just check a
box in the Preferences: “Headers at top”.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, there is no global setting for it I am aware of but you can switch each header with “Mouse over Header” + F5
Than save startup file with “Ctrl + U”
Global setting make not much sense for me, I prefer header on top for properties but bottom in 3dview for example.

Cheers, mib

Thank you for the response. I’ve already customized my startup
file that way. But lately I’ve been working more and more with
animation and F-curves and am frequently splitting/joining the
windows instead of using a different workspace for each phase
of my projects.

And no matter how many times you flip to top and save, newly
created views default to bottom. I know on average that most
people prefer it like that… but I’ve never been most people.

Thank you for taking the time to answer, though. It’s appreciated!

I was able to create a StartUp config that has them all on the Top.

Check out the vid demo of my setup, or try the setup:

Sweet setup. I like some of your usages.
My startup also opens with all the headers at the top.
I won’t get to run yours until later in the day, but did
you get around the new view thing?

Split a view (headers stay where you have them), then
change the new one to a different editor (ie: switch from
3d View to VSE)… mine always re-defaults back to bottom
no matter what’s saved.

It’s a trifling thing, for sure, and I’m probably in the minority
of those who prefer them ALL at the tops. I’ve been looking
at the interface scripts and see where the calls are made, but
quite frankly doing a custom build for one checkbox feature is
totally beyond my current skillsets. (or my willingness to waste
that much time - I’s be lazies)

Yes

This is something that has allways been anoying for me, considering the number of options you can customise within Blender and that there is an option to flip any header to the top once the window is open it’s just plain odd that it is not in the user preferences as a tick box.

It is also annoying personaly that they are by default FOOTERS not HEADERS.

I’ve been using blender for years and I keep hoping that each new release will address this omition.
