Procedural window frost

Here’s a procedural window frost material I’ve been working on. I know it’s physically incorrect (frost grows differently) but maybe it’s passable for distant windows? Background image is a photo.

That’s an interesting effect. Maybe you could add a bit more noise somewhat based around a hexagonal grid, or something like that. Cool!

Thanks! I think I have an idea about what you mean, but I’m not entirely sure. Do you mean to randomly select the direction of the ripples from a set of 6 (well, 3) directions? That would indeed mimic a part of the growth of frost.

When you’re ready, would you mind sharing? I have some ideas on how the lightpath could be more realistic, but I’d have to mess around a bit.
