360 deg. video and spatialized sound with Blender - how ?

While rendering 360 deg. stereo video doesn’t seem to be an issue, getting out spatialized sound track does seem to be puzzling.

The way I see the workflow is as following: place sounds in the scene using speaker objects, render still frames for future compositing, render audio track in a 5.1 ACC format (or something else?), do compositing and then merge video / 3D sound track with VSE.

The questions is if Blender will produce true 3D spatialized sound and if 5.1 ACC format supports spatialized audio (if it doesn’t, what format should be used?).

Another question is how to render out only sound track (and having it in-sync with the scene) ?

Thanks!
