Modding Source Games (Insurgency) with Blender

Hey there,

I was searching the internet on how to make mods for Source Games (specifically Insurgency) but I cant seem to find good tutorials for beginners… I was making some reticules for the start but now I want to make a custom scope and stuck at the decompiling proccess with Nodepad++ and the Vertex Groups and recompiling it for the Game. I also wonder how to effectively Smooth-Shade a rounded low-poly Object without the Edge Split modifier because of the doubled vertices. I tried marking sharp Edges but nothing really changes.
