[HOW TO] Add glow in text with Nodes?

Hey guys
I’ve been trying to add effect on a text in Cycles blender with Nodes but i failed…
Here is the blender file if someone can check what im missing…
http://www.pasteall.org/blend/41562
I tried to make it glow like that : http://imgur.com/FoGTIOo

Here’s what I came up with:

  1. First, I enabled transparency so I could have the text all by itself.
  2. Then I created a version of the text over black with an Alpha Over node.
  3. I applied a Glow Node to the result of the text-over-black image, setting “Mix” to 1.0, so it was ONLY producing the glow.
  4. I blurred that result a bit, then lightened that result with a Gamma Node.
  5. Add that result to a new instance of #2, blur it a tiny bit.
  6. Composite the original text render over #5, allowing it to shine through a bit

Thx for your help dude, i’ve been trying to make that blue colored text to glow alot, but as i see its only possible to add glow effect only to the light effect from the lamp?
and thx again for your time.

There’s always a way!
Here’s one approach: Try mixing in some Emit material to your blue, to lighten it up. That will help the Glow filter “find” that part of the image (Glow relies on a brightness Threshold):

i’ve used your nodes and added emission to the blue text, now they are glowing rly good
didn’t know that the glow filter finds the brightness place and makes it glow…
Thx so much for your help dude.

Or assign a Material ID to the material you want to glow, then select on the compositor by it.
