Why is Transparent Shader Not Working

Hey guys,

I am doing an architecture scene for my girlfriend she wants a 3D version of a salon idea she has. Anyway There is this shelf that is wood with glass doors. I was just going to use a transparent shader and mix it with a glass shader but I cannot get the transparent shader to work at all. It just looks white no matter what I do. I have attached a blend file with the shelf in the scene. If anyway can help I would greatly appreciate it, Thanks!

(I used filedropper for the first time so I hope the download works)

You have two materials assigned to two slots on the object. The first material one (retail.wood) is diffuse and is assigned to all of the faces on the object. Delete that material slot, and the second shader (tranparent) will automaticlaly be assigned to the faces as it’s the only one left.

Or alternately select all faces in edit mode and hit the assign button on the second material.

Yes I have applied the transparent material in edit mode. I even separated one of the pieces of glass to its own object and deleted the first material leaving only the transparent material. Either way it is not working. I can change the color of the transparent node and all of the glass changes color but it is not transparent so I know it has the correct material.

Oh I see,
The faces in the same object assigned to the wood material go right through (on top of) the glass effectively blocking it. I would make them separate objects for clarity.

" I even separated one of the pieces of glass to its own object " - hide this new object. You will see another plane which is blocking render.

Ah! I can’t believe I did that lol. I see now there was a plane behind the glass. Thanks for your help guys! I appreciate it!
