Help adding a texture to a 3D object. BLENDER BEGINNER

Hi Guys,

First off, let me apologise if I’m not posting this in the correct manner. New to this forum as well as Blender.

Basically I’m looking for a bit of assistance with adding a texture to a 3D rectangle. I want to add a design to it that follows throughout the shape. Quite difficult to explain but if you guys could take a look at the attached image which shows what I am trying to create.

Any advice you guys could offer would be hugely appreciated as I need this for my coursework.
