Scene overview, cleanup and file size optimization

Hello,

I seem to build very large blender scenes (over 500Mo) and use them over and over for different purpose. Sometimes it would be very efficient for me to delete a lot of geometry and things that are not necessarily in the scene or contributing enough to the render. This would allow me as well to use GPU rendering in some scenes where it crashes because of the lack of cuda memory.

I there a good tutorial or a good workflow to clean up a .blend file for unnecessary textures, particle systems etc… ?

Thank you
