DAZ Studio 1.0 for free

Learned about the release today, here:

Official page, here:
http://www.daz3d.com/program/studio/1_0index.php

This may come useful when setting up figures to be rendered w/Blender.

i am obligated by the liscense to tell you all about it.

but i am just trying it out for right now.

i wsa under the impression that it was a Poser program, but it seems its more of a full studio package… testing it now…

Please do tell…

They seem to push “Bryce 5.5” on their site, it wouldn’t make sense that
D.A.S Studio would be a replacement for Bryce…so I suspect it’s just
a “buy-characters-and-render” program. Kind of like getting a barbie-doll
for free and then you’re hooked on buying the contents…

This is off the topic… but funny as can be…

SamAdam and i each have a sig in our profiles in a row that not only bash microsoft, but also involve appliances!

au contraire. linux and osx have windows too.

don’t assume too much.

No they don’t. With Microsoft Windows is a brand,
My apartment has windows…windows is something a house have.

:stuck_out_tongue:

They call it art…but all it is slapping premade models into pre-lit environments with pre-created textures…

What a crock. All for a bunch of horny 13 yr olds to download and install to see semi-naked poser models.

:expressionless:

Art my @**.

so if I said to a linux user: “open blender in a new window” or “tell me what is in the console window,” you are saying that he wouldn’t understand me? or would correct me?

No…You can tell them that they don’t need windows to run Blender

it seems that every bloody company these days wants to make a 3d modeling package…

how many damn packages do we have these days?

yet another in the pile

Alltaken

nobody mentioned it here but as it looks like they use 3delight as a render engine.

only that would make this app already quite interesting and worth
to take a look at!

claas

well, variety is the spice of life, or so they say…

Except for the fact that I really can’t be bothered to look at yet another 3d app…

wow

the rendertime is incridible SLOW.

i dont know what they are doing cause 3delight is extremly fast.

well well…

Sorry but I dont agree. Whats that old refrain that Blender artists have hidden behind for the last 8 years or so?

“its not the tools, its the artist.”

A little pin-upish (stahlberg even), but certainly not ‘cookie cutter’ art.

Anyway DAZ studio is interesting if anything because its a free graphical interface to a renderman renderer of very high quality (3delight). People have reported success using their own shaders with DAZ and 3delight.
You can always import your own models and textures into it as well (it has no modelling capabilities.)

Xarf

3dlieght … there were funny debates on the beta forums.

I didn´t try the 1.0 version but in the later version the surface editor was very simple. I don´t see any advantage in the fact that it has a renderman compliant renderer if you can´t write your own shaders.

i worked a bit more with dazStudio.

i cannot get the hardware rendering to work.

the interface seems to belong to an older app.
i am not sure if they give it away for free because
it is old, not used, or other …

is quite an amazing image. the skin doesnt look that bad actualy.
but i still wonder why the 3delight engine is so damn slow in dazStudio.

it also looks like that their main focus lies on selling 3d data and not
the a 3d app. quite some amazing images in their gallery uses their
3d models in different 3d apps.

Although I’m inclined to agree with Zarf, I still don’t think this program is very well suited to anyone who is really SERIOUS about making CG art. Bryce isn’t either, in my opinion.

argh, i got rid of it. Kept those nice free human models tho. Could be useful in the future.
