extract mesh from object into another object

Hi there everyone

I would like to know if someone knows how to extract a mesh from an object into a separate object?

This is the inverse of join objects, if my question seems confusing.

Hit P in Edit mode and either select the loose mesh and choose Selected, or choose All Loose Parts. Of course if there are more than two loose parts the first option applies.
