Yes that is a REAL photo. I didn't believe it at first. But upon closer inspection I've realized it is!

Another angle:

Why did they make such boring looking houses? I'm also loving the vomit colour scheme to the right of the photo above.

I wonder what would happen if I posted the first picture in Finished Projects?
hmmm...

If anyone else has any 'looks fake but is real' photos please share!

I don't believe that they are real, the images are just to small to tell if they are real or not.

What were the signs that you looked at and decided that they were real?

we have had tricksters in here before.

Looks fake.
Where's the front door?
Why are all the windows the same? No variations, other than open & closed curtains. No flowers at window, nor different coloured curtains.
It just looks like a copy and paste with some slight changes.

Got a location on where these houses are? So I can Google Earth it.

I've updated my first post with a larger of the second shot. Here is a google earth screenshot:

More information: http://cellar.org/iotd.php?threadid=9102

Heres an excerpt:

"When I first clicked on the gent's submission, I thought, no. It can't possibly be. This is a fake. These are rendered. They're just too uniform to be real. Didn't I build neighborhoods like this in SimCity? Isn't this a SimCity screenshot?

No, it ISN'T. So the photographer claims!

These are shots from a helicopter pilot on Mexico City. He points out that, in these shots, you are seeing only about 300 houses in a complex of 10,000 of them."

MORE!

Nothing to do with mexico, but still looks photoshopped at least:

Because obviously, this guy has absolutely nothing better to do than make about a hundred of those. I smell cynics. They smell kind of like BS, except with a hint of toffy.

I've seen fog like that before.

They look like photos which have the colour made more extreme.

Oh my god...I guess it tells a lot about how awful it must be there, when everyone thinks this is fake. This really looks horrible...as a render and as a place for living.

Having been to several provinces and cities in Mexico, I can tell you the awful truth: They consider it 'pretty'.

No kidding. Pastels are unbelievably favored in many areas, and the more the better. The simplicity also seems to be prominent, but that might just be because savy salesfolk have made easily produced things a trend. Odds are, those houses are costly for their region, and considered stylish!

They aren't Different curtains, opennes/closedness, etc. (for the most part, at 400 magnification).

Also "textures" are subtly different. (although, I won't say I'm 100% sure about shadows/discoloration inside those... err... "oversized chimneys".)

So, I think it should be real... But the worst architecture ever.

Maybe these houses even really are, on their own. Put next to 1000 identical twins they're scary.

well, the website that has all those image has one image of the photographer:
http://homepage.mac.com/helipilot/.P...eas/Myself.jpg

See anything wrong with this image? I can only assume he's playing with the images a bit i.e. filters or saving them poorly etc..

That's just a bad photoshop 'paint'-looking filter, yeah. Cyborg Dragon uses those all the time. The rest don't look photoshopped, though.

Yeah! And the designers of the Matrix haven't finished that part yet. That's why it looks fake.

As for myself, I find it difficult to just pass those off as fake, but they SCREAM cg.

EDIT:

I just noticed the empty lot in the second picture. It really looks real. And if someone was trying to fool us, why would some of the houses be "untextured gray"?

Oy, I have to get out of here. Them pictures is driving me batty.

Bull. There's not a single person visible anywhere in the first image. What happened to the trunk of the red car? I's lower half is missing. None of the vehicles have door seams. What the hell happened to the rear of the yellow car? Never seen anything like that. Why are there no bald spots an ANY of the lawns where the cars park over them on the paving stones? Lower left gray car is dented in on the side with no signs of crash dammage and the right rear part of the bumper of the other gray car zigzags down with no signs of dammage either. Where is the roof on the buiding. There are plenty of houses that look like that along I10 on the U.S./Mexican border in New Mexico where we're only separated by an 8 foot high chain link fence but I haven't seen ANY grass out there, just plenty of signs warning motorists of extreme fire danger. Every house has identical curtains that are a different color in every window. What the heck is up with the strip of grass between the curbs and the sidewalks? If those paving stones were meant to be parked on then at the very least that strip of grass would have tire marks across it in front of most of the houses unless the people in this hood can't afford cars.

EDIT: Ok, so that was a little cold. Sorry about that, but to put it clearer:

While I can tell there's a snarky rant in there, I'd really rather not read it right now, because the effort involved in deciphering those words well only result in me reading some guy getting really annoyed about a picture which may or may not be true. Point is, if you're going to go being unpleasant, please make an effort to speak your native language reasonably well, so people don't have to exercise more mental effort than they need to for them to be belittled.

RamboBaby, almost ALL of what you said can be explained by the low quality of the images. Especially the comment about door seams. You can't expect to see door seams from that quality!

i think on the website that some of the pictures are actually real. However, most aren't. Plus there's a picture of a helicopter from the sky.
How would you take a picture of the helicopter if your in it? And if your not in it, then you must be in a different one right? (he's a pilot) well, they don't fly in that kind of formation because of the air currents.

dunno man, its either really bad CG or a really weird neighborhood. There are shadows vary (realistically) on the buildings which means that they are all not the same, although it is weird that there is no one in the picture
