2007 BWC #4, Distant Future, Nature, Discovery, Religion

This years entries are pretty impressive, there is some exceptional work amongst this lot. click on each image to see a full version of it.

I will compile a panel of judges to judge both the main round and the best of the rest round so that we can decide who will recieve some great prizes from the pool. I will also open this thread for public voting, so that you can all have your say as to who's is the best.

But first, contestants, please check your blurbs, the category I have put you in, and your images/links. You have a day to put things right if I have made a mistake anywhere (not a chance to re-write your blurb, but if i have mixed something up. this is your chance.)

and now, onto .......

The Main Event

Babracadabra

Eve3000 is a robot in the distant future who discovers the tree of knowledge of good and evil. She is reaching for the fruit in the hope that it will give her that which separates her from her creators - a soul. Kind of like Pinocchio, but better looking

BackiZ

BlendMaster

The year is 3030, the Galileo space drone has finally arrived on centaury 5 with its tri-luna moons after a 50 year journey. The destination was chosen on the ground of an unexplained energy pattern that seems to be emitted from the planet. After landing Galileo made its way and found itself on a path way, it lead to what appears to be the main temple of an ancient civilisation. New vegetation suggests a natural disaster that "cleared the land". On stone paintings it is visible that nature was not only part of their life, but also society turned around nature and its power to be gentile or destructive. the energy source seems to be the cube that not only glows and hovers above the temple, but it radiates the unexplained energy pattern. Inside the temple writing was discovered with a rough translation being "the cube of life, that was a gift from the Gods", indicating a poly-theistic religious oriented society. Speculations are that it may be an advanced piece of technology which aided in the development (and or destruction) of this civilisation.

emu

During the construction of the new maglev railway, they encountered an angry flame daemon from ancient ages.

FoCus

This image portray that we successfully managed to find a new place that we can call home, but after million of years living on the planet the ship was forgotten, some thought it had been broken down piece by piece and made into other things, and some thought it move on in search for other planets. The Ark had more or less become a legend, a religion, was it real or not? did we really come in a ship, some thought a ship of that size could never have been built. But one day a fisherman made a remarkable discovery, he found the Ark, it wasn't destroyed and it hadn't left. Because of it's enormous size and value as well, they had nowhere to put it but on remote place and it was to be forgotten by the people. The location of the ship was forgotten but never it purpose. Every day they thank the ancestors and the Ark for the voyage they took to find a new home and by that the grew even stronger because they all knew that if we help each other we can manage everything.
Maybe because of the strong faith they've built up that they are a united people, they are earthlings, no war has ever broken out.

jack000

In a world plunged in eternal night by the indiscretions of his former masters, the maintenance bot has found a new purpose

Jeepster

A small team of excavation and research robots explore the last forest among the planet Earth.
These three hovering machines, among hundreds of others, are on a mission to gather information in order for the humans to create their last city.
Upon their duty, they discover a mysterious sculpture – a shrine of an ancient religion.
Unfortunately, the robot does not recognize this majestic figure, and it will be destroyed along with the rest of the tropical forest...

loramel

Distant Future.

The era of mankind has long been over and left the planet in a desolate state.
It's a barren wasteland.

In the last stages of mankind Sony produced the 8th generation Aibo pets, then
(to more closely simulate real pets) outfitted with a basic A.I and more important
the ability to reproduce. These pets turned out to be quite endurable
as they were the sole survivors of the big cataclysm so to be followed.

Over time they evolved and and reached a state of self awareness. And with this
now the old questions were asked by these descendants of pets:

Where do I come from. Was there a creator, a god ?

Myths began to build about wise omnipotent creators, long gone from this world.
That lead to the rise of a crude type of religion, worshipping the still shapeless
creators.

Until, by chance and circumstance, far out in the wide sandy plains a relic is found.
Rumours spread and ignited discussions among the people, until a high priest and
his students are sent out to investigate and to prove the true holy nature of the relic

Modron

in the distant future, after the earth has been mostly flooded, this teletubby-like shrew creature happens upon a remnant of our culture, and sees it as some kind of holy object, This is the beginning of TinkyWinkyism.

Radulan

Anthropologists have found evidence of an advanced civilization. A weapon has been located, on an inhabited planet. The locals made it a god, but it is needed in order to end an inter-system war definitively.

RobertT

After millions of years of scouring the cosmos for a sign, a clue -- anything -- these advanced beings finally find their long-sought "proof of highermostness" (their word for God) on a charred and abandoned planet called Earth, at the Crucifixion site of Golgotha. While, in the distance, there simmers remnants of Earth's dying sun, a new era of enlightenment and fiery debate is set to dawn.

sgbzona

Simple concept about a futuristic lady bug. The idea of a picture taken by a future explorer.

sliv

A cosmonaut is visiting a planet where there is no more life, the nature is dead. Is it a new plant or the future Earth?
A little flower is appearing in a divine light ... we can hope that the life is coming back again...

TheM.h.p.e

After searching for what seems to have been forever, our heroes finally find the Tree of Life. The Tree shines golden and green in the setting sun, contrasting its unpleasant surroundings of sharp metal and rusted bolts, forming a corrupted version of what was once nature.

Best of the Rest

chinu3d

The last of the humans have lost all their vegetation on earth in a catastrophic nuclear explosion. Setting out on flying ships through interdimensional vortices, they discover a planet having some vegetation being protected by a group of highly religious aliens. This is a planet receiving little star light. So the aliens use highly concentrated artificial light to grow plants.

I had to vote for either backiZ or Mathias (they where best imo)....i choose backiZ. I think he he has alot of expression in his robot character that appeals the most to me (even though there is some AA issues there).

I would have voted for jack000's if i could understand why that shield/belly think looked so wierd. I chose Mr Pedersen's because it felt more awe inspiring than BackiZ's.

That's supposed to be a trash can : ]

The original idea was that he's been patching up using scrap metal. I was going to rough him up a bit more, but I only had the weekend to work on it.

thanks for the support guys!

edit: voted for mhpe. It's just the best.

i myself voted for TheM.h.p.e amazing detail and expression plus perfect use of the topics

however i only have a simple question, i know that my image isnt finished, and that the drone might look a bit bad since i had little time to work on it...

but does realy no-one like my image in the slightest? like could someone please point out where i have gone wrong? (its unfinished since i ran out of time, i literally aborted the render 3 minutes before the deadline. it was rendering for 10hr, needed one more hour to be completly done:S )

Blendmaster I don't think the voting, is necessarily a good gauge of the worth of a piece. For example, note radulan has only two votes, yet, his scene is exquisite, contains several fairly complex models, fits the theme very well, and was put together very thoughtfully in terms of form. IMO he was robbed...!, but that's the way the voting goes, sometimes. There is nothing wrong with your piece.

what? someone likes me someone really likes me? Modron, thanks for making an example of me.

Despite that it, is obvious that many of the voters didn't vote for 3, they probably were under the false impression that they should just vote for one.
