(blog post here: http://virtualanvil.wordpress.com/20...ad-time-lapse/)

Hello all, long time no ramble! Here I post, in all of its untamed stunning beauty, the remnant of HD Render Man's and my Blending Life competition entry (ok, we don't think it's that great, but we tried).

I did all of the base modeling, and David did the sculpting in Blender. He's used to sculpting in ZB, so he's not really happy with this, but I think the sculpted version looks pretty great when rendered. Give him a round of applause for migrating to Blender's sculpt mode and finish this off in two sittings or so! (yeah, that's about all the free time we ever have, plus we're separated by an ocean of time zones, so that gets in the way a bit, too... arr).

Attached is the sort-of-finished product (I'm going to make some finishing touches to the modeling and make a real beauty render when I have some free time, probably in February... ). There'll be a turn-table render similar to that sometime soon, but it's nearly 1:00 AM right now and I'm already tired from getting this post put together.

And now, the reason you clicked here:
All of the base modeling was recorded in time-lapse (1024x768, 30fps), and I will be uploading all of the 6 increments as often as Vimeo's 500mb/week limit will allow.

If you have a bittorrent client, here's a torrent file, containing the full-res videos.

Really great modeling technic and result, your method is very interesting.

Thanks for sharing this, are you going to texture it?

Great video and modeling! And while the sculpting is fine, I have to say the lion's share of credit has to go to your amazing basemesh.

@Mad Mantos: We will if we find the time, but that might be in January or February. He is already unwrapped, though, so that'll give a small head start.

@Romeo: Thanks! Unfortunately, though, the reason for that is Blender's somewhat limited sculpt-mode (mostly in terms of speed). Now that we're not constrained by the contest terms, he might pull it back into ZB and work his magic sometime, and I could take a shot at doing a Blender-only sculpt to satisfy the fanboys.

3rd part is up and running, thereby depleting my upload limit for the week. By the way, the videos vary quite a bit in length, so I apologize for the messiness, but I figured if I worried about editing and better presentation, this would end up like my lightsaber tutorial.

Due to Vimeo's hideous decimation of the video quality, and the 500mb/week limit, I have started a torrent here, containing all of the full-res files, in Divx format, for optimum viewing enjoyment.

Well, I think such a great basemesh deserves a better end result so if you find time you really should revisit this one (man I wish my basemeshes were that good). Also it seems a shame not to texture this guy! Huge thanks for the Videos!

It's supposed to look like wet clay or something, not skin. Use your imagination!

And thanks.

Umm, that's what these videos are for. The first three are on Vimeo, and if you have a bittorrent client you can get the rest right now through the torrent. The next three will be posted as soon as possible on Vimeo.

DLDed and SEEDING , actually the concept of the view following a portion of the screen isn't too cool , it's eye-exahusting !!! , and takes lotsa buffer in the video size ...

good tutorial , thanks ...

Yeah, sorry about that, but I have a big 1680x1050 screen and if I recorded full-frame it not only would have been a bigger download but it probably would have caused slow-down while I worked...

I'll try to make my next tutorial much easier on the eyes.

The last 3 videos are up on Vimeo. Sorry for the lossy quality; I'll re-encode them when I get the time.

If you take the length of all the videos and multiply it by 6, you should have the time taken. That turns out to be nearly six hours.
