After a crazy month full of filming, effects work, editing, writing, etc. I am proud to release my latest short film, Plant. Stop-motion animation by VNAnimation and original score composed by Ben Boatwright

As I mentioned, this film was made in about thirty days in order to hit the deadline for a contest we're entering. It was definitely rushed, but I'm proud of what we were able to put together in that time. I look forward to your comments and critique - every reply makes my next film a little bit better. Thanks!

All of the 3d work for the film was created and rendered inside Blender, with some compositing in Blender's compositor. Blender was a fast, efficient tool that fit well into my hurried workflow.

Very nice! Can you tell us exactly what was done in 3D and what was stop-motion? It seems really well integrated.

What I'm thinking of doing is putting together a video with shot breakdowns for almost all of the shots in the film. Stay tuned for that - I think it will give a good idea of what was CG and stop-motion.

Simply amazing ! Really like the concept and you did a great job in blender, the shaders are very well managed as they really look very natural. I also like the way lego are stacked with variation on the joints, very realistic. Definitely one of the best movies made with Blender.

Well done. Stop motion would be very tedious, I see a master puppeteer in the making for the next Coraline.

Thank you all for the kind comments. I don't hang around the forums here very often, but I really love working with Blender. I mentioned a little about this in my first post, but Blender was the perfect tool for the project. I was working on some shots with an After Effects-Blender workflow, and others simply used Blender's compositor, which I like a lot.

A lot of that credit goes to VNAnimation, who animated most of the crazy shots. I'll have some original footage in the behind-the-scenes clip I make, but he was willing to do a lot of weird stuff, from greenscreens to a character walking on a treadmill for one shot to the character knocking over a trashcan - some complex animation that he was really able to nail.

Great work! 30 days to do a short film of that quality, well done.
I'd be interested to see a shot breakdown / behind-the-scenes article!

Thank you. It was pretty tough since I'm a highschool freshman this year, so I still had to keep up with school, but I managed to squeeze it in and still get enough sleep to function.

I put together a little video with a couple of basic shot breakdowns. I'm also thinking of writing an article on the digital effects in general as well as the all-CG shots. And suggestions on that?

Note: Still processing at the time of this post.

Thanks!

Geez, man. Definitely one of the best stop-motion-like animations I've seen yet. Shading and subtleness is awesome! ^_^
