Welcome to Issue #20, “Make It, Bake It, Fake It”

While it's true that Blender has a powerful selection of tools, sometimes the "fake" or "cheat" is often preferred for various reasons. Time and hardware limitations, being the biggest reasons for using a "fake" or "cheat". Then there are the tools that actually are the “fake”, such as Normal maps. So in this issue we take a look at some great techniques for baking normal maps, lighting and how to create some great effects.

So grab your copy today.

Also be sure to check out our gallery of wonderful images submitted by very talented members of our community.

Table of Contents:
  • Tutorial - Baking normal maps from a high poly model.
  • Tutorial - Big Bobby Car (Organic Surface Modeling)
  • Tutorial - Normal Mapping in Blender
  • Tutorial - Lighting and Film Making Tricks: Conveying
  • MAKING OF: ‘A Cassette Tape’
  • MAKING OF: ‘Dusting Off A Surprise’
  • INTERVIEW: David Hickson - Blenducation
  • And more . . .

Are the files for the Mix tape complete? I'll re-read the article t make sure I didn't miss anything, but it seems that some things are missing from it (according to Blender).

Thanks for this new issue! very useful and interesting. I have some constructive criticism to make, I don't know if this is a good place to do it. Also I would like to ask what the next issue is going to be about.

Next issue will be focusing on blender artists and their projects.

As for the constructive criticism, you can do it here or you pm me.

Sandra,

It would be great if all the blend files are included. A blend file for each article > finished scene and significative intemediate steps if needed, but always referenced in the article. Also the renders in the back of the magazine, I would be great if those authors share the blend files as well.

Smaller margins and use full A4 to make bigger screenshots and renders, some of the screenshots can be seen only by using zoom.
