Hey everyone!

This was our entry to the "Autodesk Visualization Award" competition in the FIRST Robotics Competition. We created it completely with Blender, Photoshop, and After Effects. It made it into the top five of the world.

Here is the link to the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgWYLXxBDBo&fmt=18

You can see what we competed against at the bottom of the page here:

Again. Please comment and let me know what you think!

Thanks,
-Chris

what the... that was random, but I liked it. So how long did your team have to make it?

It's very cool I liked the transformation of the cargo ship but I would have like it to be slower to see more detail. Anyway, you must be very proud to top 5 an Autodesk competition with a blender animation

I thought you were only allowed to use 3DS Max. Where does it say you can use other software?

andrewm1991: Thank you! I appreciate it

Atemporalskill: I don't remember how long we had to make it. It was in between a month and two months though.

DarthNick: I would have slowed it down, but unfortunately we were only limited to 30 seconds of actual animation. We spent the majority of the time figuring out how to make a cargo ship transform. It wasn't easy. I can post the file somewhere if anyone is interested! I'm glad you liked it though

flyvin: We read the rules very VERY carefully. We found a loophole under the FAQ section http://firstbasefrc.autodesk.com/?nd..._visualization
It says:
Quote:
Q: Can we use third party product products to help create our animation?
A: The goal of the Autodesk Design Competition is to use the Autodesk products provided to create the animation. Third party products, plug-ins, enhancements can only be used if they are free of charge and open for any team to use (i.e. the rightful owner would give permission for all teams to use). This allows an even playing field for all teams to participate in the design competition.
Any more comments or criticisms are greatly appreciated! Please post

-Chris

Hey Everyone,

I will have the .blend file of the cargo ship up by the end of the weekend. Does anyone know of any good free file upload services? It's about 40mb. It has quite a large poly count and some large textures.

I've been involved in some research into creative ocean crossings for the last twelve months. This one gets the cake
Very amusing, you should have got first prize. Good on you for exploiting the loophole

I'd be very interested in seeing how you accomplished your transform animation as well. Great work and congratulations on placing top 5!

But that is nice work, was maybe missing a bit of some kind of ambient music, but not much.
