Hi all,
finished a short (20s) animation of a four stroke internal combustion engine: http://vimeo.com/7170769 Its aim is to show the relation between the motion of the crank-shaft, piston, valves and the moment of ignition but of course it is not like any realistic engine at all. It actually grew out of an internal project to master complex pydrivers and as a matter of fact none of the objects are rigged or simulated in bullet, but any motion is the result of pydrivers driving appropriate IPO channels, all dependent on the motion of the flywheel. As usual, any C&C is welcome. Once rendered it took me quite some time to get a decent sound (well I think it's decent, your opinion may be different of course ) and even more work the get output from the sequencer that would show up as HD on vimeo with sound.Everything was rendered, composited and sequenced in Blender 2.49 (latest official download) but the sound was 'rendered' in audacity (sound not being Blenders strong point) and simply added in the sequencer.

Nice work. The textures and lighting leave something to be desired, but as far as illustrating how an engine works great job. I know very little about the internal workings of vehicles, but now I think I get it
![]() I'd be interested to see the script you wrote too. |
