It's quite some time ago that I started this, now I did the final compositing and finished the project.

(Some WIP was here: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=144663 )

About the picture:
It shows an aerobatic formation of three Aermacchi MB-339 PAN from the Italian “Frecce Tricolori”.

Applications used:
Modelling in Blender
Texturing in Blender and Inkscape
Rendering in Luxrender 0.6 RC6 (2 Passes)
Postproduction in the Blender Compositor
Denoising in Gimp

I hope you like it.

Impressive! Stunning modelling, texturing and lighting (and everything else you did to make this awesome piece of art).

Aaaawesome!! Anything this beautiful, made in blender, and related to aviation, the dogs go running for mops and buckets to wipe up the drool before I flood the basement.
I really like how you put the camera in the cockpit of plane 1 instead of outside somewhere where all of them can be seen. Very unique!

Great cockpit view! Love the hot jet trail postprocessing. Are the mountains 3D too?

This is awesome. I really liked the implied V-formation, but I think the background looks a tad boring compared to the planes. The aviation around this forum is amazing...

@ walross, meschoyez, gallardo, Robo3Dguy, radialronnie, congcong009, abelink:

Thanks a lot, I'm really happy you like it.

@ Linolafett: Thanks, same for your work.

@ namekuseijin: The mountains and the sky are a background image from cgtextures.

@ tcrazy, ShadowFantasy1: Yes, they're slightly flat, but making them in 3D would be really hard and probably wouldn't look better than now. Therefore I accepted this little blemish.

BTW: Some Wireframe of the Scene and the Aircraft.
