Hi all, actualy I make an shader test to discover how to create chader with blender. Not pretty easy......

I made that, on procedural texturing

And so I have two question..... :Z ..... as usual
1 - How to mask procedural texture with another ?
In this exemple I want to make apear veins on cell base only.
2 - Is it an parameter on blender renderer to set on to make good job with displacement mapping ????

so, thanks

maybe a bit of displacement.
(edit)
i'll answer the #2 properly.

no the option is all in material window. but to get good result you have to subdivide you mesh. Don't do that the hard way, there is an option in edit windows to subdivide: without touching the mesh: enable sudivision and select the simple mode. the get level of subd. on render(the one on the right) to about 3 or 4.

Fantastic shader! Love to see how you do it

When you say "masks" you might be talking about what Blender calls "Stencils". There are some tutorials around about how to use them, if you do a search.

I can easily see what you used to make the shader but still it looks like some nice abstract marble pattern.

yes stencil is what you want- its in the material buttons on the rightmost panel- a stencil texture "masks" the ones above it.
cool looking mat btw. I like the colors.

yes it's very hard.
The first I posted is made with blender, and my render is not as better as with max for the moment.
But I think it's possible, with better displacment, and mape color tweekings.

My third probleme, is specularity.....
If you look attentivly the shader on the top on this thread, specularity is very bad.... It make some stain very ungrasfull......
I'll test with self illuminated white plan and ray tracing......

Some one know, how to render translucency with yafray ?????
I test with gradient and translucy, like with blender internal renderer, but it not work.......

It looks like the specularity is a lot harder on the max render- turn the hardness up on the blender one- you can also choose the shader for the spec (and diffuse)
Looks like you used displacement on the max render , but not blenders, you can try displacement on the blender render and see how that looks.
Otherwise keep on trying- it can be hard to mimic exactly the results from one renderer to the other, but you should be able to get close, I think.

Yes, I don't want to make exaclty the same, I want to make as good as....
I want it render brain, as realistic as possible, that all.

I know the too renderer are differents..... The exercise is destinate to organize my workflow on blender with the same thinks I can do on max

I not had good result with displacement with blender.....
I'll test with great subdivisions......
Nevermind, for the final object, all the brain will be modeling..... so displacement may not be important

yop cool :Z I'm not the only to test this shader......

So this is my laste tweeking, without displacment....

And the source of the first and last test
first test
last test

I see you found how to burn light impacte with reflexion..... this tips is very cool :Z

I try my own ... still not really looking like the 3sdmax though :-?

I like the color patterns on your last test, it looks really...errr... "brain-ish"

hihi yes, the exercice is to be made of to vomit on my computer.....
I'm really silly...... :Z

So I thinks you must add translucense on your shader, to make more réalistique. And add an little joints dark green. And bump map to accentuate cellular......
About cellular, what procedural map do you use ?

But your shader look very good.
And specularity is realy good, can you poste the .blend...... to decorticate....

good job, and thanks to make evoluate my idea.

That was what I thought when I tried to create that shader But for the moment, I think the 3ds one is the most disgusting of all, haha.

hé mais si tu rend ta tartiflette, ca veux dire que tu est :
de 1 français, et de deux savoyard. un peu comme moi quoi..... parce que je vais de la tartiflette bien plus ragoutante que mes shaders.... hihi

so stop to speak french.
Thanks for .blend file, I will match your shader man

This topic got me interested in organic shaders, so here's what I whipped up:

It's more of a heart/muscle texture rather than brain but I think it still fits the topic .

So ok, I've got an Idea for blender community....
Like someone think this topic is interessant and wand to play with blender shading tools.....
I propose we make an Organic shader topic where we poste our results and our .blend and a little explication......
I thinks it's realy greate for newbies to see how we made......

After, at the end, I'll make an resume with all renders et some explanations concatenate from yours......
And everybody can learn together.....

Is it an good idea ?

MyIS, your shader is very excelent..... I hope you join us for this little exercice.....
Please, can you poste the .blend source please ????......
