well...
I was curious if one could do something like that in blender... as so often, it turns out one can.

PS.: I do realise that the bone structure is not terribly accurate.

Very cool animation.

How did you do it? I suppose you used compositer nodes to achieve this, using an animated plane to mask the two different meshes (the body and the skeleton)... am i right?

Btw, reminded me of "Total Recall"

...ahem. Actually, I'd recommend that you read the post more carefully.

Anyway, that's a really cool test.

That is correct. I doubted the eternal POWAR! of blender for a moment.

It involes a blend texture mapped using the coordinates of an animated empty. Also some 'masks' (rendered in shadeless B/W) and indeed noodles.

mhm, yes.. in the end it actually is quite simple. And I bet there is a better way to do it too. ^^

anyway, here goes nothing:

texture for the ring to be 'cut' out of the skin

Used an empty as coordinates to make sure the ring is in the same place (the empty's position - duh) and size for every object with this texture. (skin, eyes etc..)

and the noodle mess

edit: oops, forgot the new amazing vid .. with everything the same, except the head is now rotating.

Very cool effect, pretty easy to setup too! I could see this being used for all kinds of things - good job

the_nr, thank you very much for that info, great stuff!

Actually, i thought that the skeleton was surrounded by a blue, transparent mesh, but this is a more powerful aproach. And this will help me increase my knowledge of composite nodes.

Cheers
