Time to upgrade!

Tweaks / new design:
1. Material "Preview Type - hair strands" - B-5;
2. Improoved File Browser "Sort by..." icons (still far from perfection, but a bit better now) D-1...4;
3. -//- "show hidden files"... D-7;
4. "Thumbnail view type" for File Browser - D-8;
5. "Bookmark" for File Browser - D-18;
6. "Particles" - U-11 / R-14 - i know that static fur/hair is just one of things that can be made with particles, but I just like this very bit... Besides it complements one another with "Preview Type - hair strands". Mind that's just a proposal.
7. "Particles Modifier" - M-10;
8. "Physics" - U-18;
9. new File... and Image Browser's icons T-5 and T-10;
10.tweaked "Timeline Editor" icon - T-15;
11. better "Node Editor" - T-16;
12. new "Packed..." and "Unpacked External Data" - R-24, R-25;
13. nicer magnifying glasses - W-4 and W-5;
14. sharper color picker - W-10;
15. ..."Game logic"... U-8 (@ William - I did my best
16. improoved padlocks - W-15 and W-16;
17. pin icons - W-17 and W-18.

And here You can grab fresh icon set for Blender 2.4x.

P.S.
@ Broken
Sorry I didn't bring back icons that were lost... I made some changes recently and do n't want to make more mess (the matrix must be reorganised thanyway).

Love the new icons, much better and clearer than what we have, thanks a lot.

The snap align icon (H8) though could be a bit clearer I think.

Don't you think it would be better if it showed a curvy surface and a straight magnet sticking to it (pointing up from the surface) or would that be too complex for such a small icon?

Thanks for the update jendrzych, just committed! Only one thing, I removed the red 'shadow' underneath the physics icon, to keep it more monochrome. We thought it was better to keep it that way. The other small tweaks as always are very nice, too - especially the locks!

Some other comments:
* The game controller is a great improvement, I agree. I think it could be simplified a bit though since it's quite busy. Perhaps removing the red button or cable might help to clear up the silhouette.
* I'm not too keen on the new particle icon. Although the old one was unclear, I think this one is also very ambiguous. Maybe something like fireworks? Or going a bit more abstract, what about even something like an atom? (particle physics

cheers

@Theeth
Snap align is on my "To tweak" list (as well as many others) - I did some sketches with normals, surfaces and magnest, but small area makes it really hard to manage, though it isn't impossible.

@Broken
I'll change the hit mark (physics icon) to be more monochromatic.

...to be contiuned...

Hi jendrzych,

Very nice update. We are drooling over the icons here in Amsterdam. For the particles icon, here's some inspiration:

Wink wink, y'know!

Something like that I think communicates the concept of particles a little clearer.

Cheers

I really like the atom idea, and it makes sense to me.

By the way of making new "Align rotation with the snapping target" icon, I dig out an old red magnet idea. It has better appereance while it doesn't have small different areas of colour with similar luminance.

Great updates jendrzych, looks like it's coming along nicely! Maybe you also noticed, but I added support for file type icons in the file browser list view. Feel free to make any changes/updates/additions to the ones I've got right now in SVN!

ah great! It would also be good if (for now) the larger size icon 'prvicons' could be consistent with the current style too. Perhaps we need to get around to finally making 2x icon file sizes...

Here You can download icons of files for File Browser

EDIT:
@Broken
Regarding to emboss effect - it's to strong against dark backgrounds. You should try to make the white layer of text semi transparent (the underneath one - that's the way You do it, isn't it?).

You mean the double sized Blenderbutton.png or bigger version of icons?

Hi

I looked at those new icons.

The joystick is cool while I did not like the idea of packman as well but joystick
seems to be better.

The scene icons seems to me to be very empty and not communicating clearly what it is about.

The simple modeling triangle was to me cleaner to show the idea of modeling.

I see that object properties and edit mode not are based on a cube but I liked the older
idea a little more because the 3D axis system for object was quite unique and deals with
the idea of an object.

In blender mesh is a node which is placed by the 3d object container.

I see that with the cube as a basis most icons have a shared element - not sure if that might harm the ability to distinguish between them.

@Cekuhnen
I agree with You regarding to Object and Edit Modes icons - but I would prefer to separate visual representation of an actual Object Datablock from Object/Edit Mode.
Object/Edit Mode icons communicate the way You work with an object while the Object Datablock is just a subject of an action - for example: we have different icons for Particle System and for Particle Mode...
On the other hand Objest Datablock is layer of an object structure that is edited only in Object Edit Mode...
Theres sth wrong with the root of my concept.

Moreover I have problem with icons for Lamp's and Camera's OB Datablock and CA/LA Datablocks... Any ideas?

Previous Camera icon design was great, why did you abandon it? Hmm, I also like current Lamp icon design, what's wrong with it?

Making icons is a tough thing - in particular for such a subject area like you do!

I am not even sure if it is possible to make perfect icons for everything!!!

And sofar they are already beautifully designed!
