Release notes work as a showcase of Blender's features. Release notes are useful for both novice user and experts as well. They allow one to take an extensive look at the wanted features and to try them out.

Currently the release notes in progress ( http://www.blender3d.org/cms/Changes..._42.771.0.html ) have plenty of room for such examples and pieces of art. Additional examples can also provided at the wiki.

You can help us by providing example files, images, videos, all things related to the release notes. The examples don't have to be complex necessarily. The main thing is that they are clear and offer proper insight to the feature shown. It would be good if there was a textual description of the feature for instance.

Provided enough test files are made it is possible that a test suite is compiled to allow the users to just dive into the world of new features.

It is important that you give a permission to use your example, image, video etc.

You can announce on this thread if you are working on some specific task such as creating a video tutorial to avoid overlapping work. Also you may leave links leading to promising threads using new features.

Let's make the release notes of Blender 2.43 the best release notes so far!

<edit>I created a page for the release note project to http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.p...Notes/Notes243 .</edit>

Can't help with examples right now myself, but I'm going to suggest that for sculpt mode stuff you ask Maqs to use his work to showcase what can be done. Can be found here.
As for retopo, I always thought this picture demonstrated it's usefulness excellently. It's by kakapo on this forum.

devroo: That's excellent work!

I would like to see example files particularly on following areas:
-fluid simulator
-soft bodies (the author of soft bodies had some nice examples so this is not a priority item)
-uv tools (perhaps a nice unwrap using new features?)
-modifiers (the author of modifiers had nice examples so this is not a priority item)
-retopo (example that shows stages of building a new topology to a mesh)
-multi resolution mesh (example file that has a mesh that has been created using MRM?)
-compositing nodes
-material nodes (mainly how and when to use the new nodes)
-rendering features (passes, baking)

You are free to use your imagination if you decide to create such examples.

Remember to write description to each example file you create. Current example files can be found at http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.p...Notes/Notes243 and http://www.blender3d.org/cms/Changes..._42.771.0.html .

I think it would be absolutely great if someone could make a video featuring the use of new sculpting tools. I am sure there are other possible subjects for video tutorials as well.

Images are still welcome of course.

Also remember to give your permission to use your example, video or image. We don't want to break copyrights.

I am going on a short vacation and will be back on next week so don't get alarmed if I cannot reply soon on possible questions.

I had planned to ask Mags and a few other artists to use their sculpting images there are quite a few excellent ones available.

Good find on the retopo image where is the thread that has it?

I'll probably do videos of sculpt, multires, and retopo - just simple ones to get the idea across... there aren't really blend files that can be done that are of use for those...

This is one of my favorites so far. I'd post video, but it's high def and lower resolutions don't do it justice. Passes are my favorite thing to play with.
http://uploader.polorix.net//files/89/HDS.exr
Edit: Passes - Combined Z, Vec, Nor / Recombined Passes Col, Diffuse, AO
3 Renerlayers used to seperate particles into foreground and background with sky.
Effects - Various mix nodes, vector blur, normal relighting, alpha over.
I know that you can't tell from the image, but the AO pass is what really brings out the colors in the image. Vector blur smears the pass beyond recognition and alpha mask from renderlayer (applied to eliminate arcing effect due to vector blur disrespecting z-space) eliminates any remaining traces of recognizable AO effect. Working on a tutorial for this one.

This is something I created today using Blender sculpt mode:

This sculpture contains approximately 870k verts. Procedural brushes were used here, along with grab mode. Both a tablet and a mouse were used.

If you can use it, I would be happy and honored to contribute this render to the visual examples being assembled for the release notes

robert, looks great although the vertex off of the nose looks out of place...

Hmm, interesting video.

What does the baking and the "unwrap" mapping do though? It seems to me (not knowing how the U.V mapping / baking process works), that after the first step where you "project from view", the texture is already on the head. I don't understand what the additional steps do after that.

it takes the texture with one form of unwrapping and transfers it to a new texture with a different form of unwrapping. The different form of unwrapping might be better suited for painting additional texture detail or be higher resolution in some areas, etc.

For what OS ?

For windows I use this one

http://www.zoo-logique.org/3D.Blende...x.php3?zoo=com

(That version is a couple of days old (12-28), but JMS usually updates it every couple of days).

For other builds / OS's graphicall.org
