Status: Done successfully. About 6 of us turned up and we quite enjoyed it.

Date: Saturday 17th March (2007 AD)

Time: 11 (AM) to... 3, 4 PM?

Location: State Library, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, etc.

Bring: pretty much anything you feel like -paper, pencils, computer, whatever. Clothing is probably a good idea.

Cost: If you know what Blender 3d is its free, if you don't I'll fine you $1000.

Way of recognising which group of weirdos you want: Maybe a print out of Suzanne? (be creative with it)

Food: Six course banquet paid for by me. Or you have to work something out yourself (decide yourself which is most likely). We might all go somewhere together, see below.

I've been meaning to do this for a few days, sorry 'bout there being less than a week's notice. I'm expecting to be in Melbourne for around a week starting on Tuesday or Wednesday (13th/14th) so I thought I may as well have another go at this.

My current thinking is that we'll meet around 11 and hang around till 11:30 to allow for latecomers then maybe head somewhere to eat something. That should be over and done with by 12:30, 13:00 and leave us with a couple of hours to spend being arty together. Whenever it is we get sick of each other we'll go our seperate ways.

One option for eating is a Hare Krisna place on Swantson street called Crossways. It offers an (all you wish to eat) two course meal between 11:30 and 2:30 Monday to Saturday for $6 ($4.50 for students, pensioners, health care card holders). Another is the Hare Krisna restaurant nearish by called Gopals (I think...) which costs more restaurantishly. There's also the food selling places in melbourne central (and I'm open to suggestions). We call always just bring our own sandwich lunches, too.

EDIT: The part of the library to hang around is the steps of the main entrance.

Ummm... I think that's all. It is about all I can think of at the moment. Comment, offer me money, tell me I'm stupid, whatever, just don't have this fade away to nothing (self esteem good for not, mhmmm :P).

Hi,

I'd like to come and meet everyone, but how are we supposed to recognize each other? Is someone going to wave a blender flag or something?

Is this meet just a social thing? Or do we have some kind of political/technical agenda?

Thanks a lot for organising this!

I suggested a print out of Suzanne (the monkey head). Its something most people should be able to get their hands on, plus people can be creative with it if they want.

Just social/learning. No plotting revolution. Nope, none at all. Please take no notice of the machine beside you.

Must have forgot to say this in the OP. I was thinking the steps of the main entrance.

Yes, it has been tried before. By me, too. One person showed both interest and ability to get there, and the two of us managed to miss each other.

If you like, you can advertise this a bit by putting links in your sig (Just copy mine if you like).

Okay, so no-one has any problems with anything? No questions? No sudden inablity to come?

I might be wearing a black tunic* on the day, depends whether I get it done by then. If I haven't, I'll most likely be wearing dark cargoes and either a t-shirt with my (long) hair tied back or a hooded jumper.

*kinda like a t-shirt, but longer and baggier. Mine will most likely be around knee-length.

11 a.m. Check. The Grand prix is on, so anyone coming from that direction, avoid Albert Park/Sth. Melb. See ya's there.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that rocked up today (and anyone who thought of rocking up). It was good to discuss Blender in RL. From little things, big things grow. . .

Noooooooooo!
If only I had known guys, I was working at the SLV today in the experimedia space, (groovy room with the big screen, couches, free wireless and Emac pod).
I had no idea you guys were on the very steps outside. Next time (if there is one) PM me well in advance. and I'll enquire about installing Blender on the Emacs. No promises but as long as we dont have any offical events on in the space, the Emac Computer Pod could cope with an handfull of blenderheads - its intended for creative use.

Hope you had fun though.

Guys, that was a rather good meeting. Following up on the discussions, here are the details for the digital symposium:

Quote:
The event will be hosted by the VCA at a venue yet to be determined
but that would allow full audio/visual presentations and an area for
informal discussion between sessions.

The final structure of presentations is still being developed but it
was agreed that short, sharp informal presentations of 5 to 10
minutes each would be ideal. These may be grouped into thematic
sessions if there are clear sympathies evident in the responses. A
final dinner event allowing participants to cement relations formed
during the sessions is to be a central event.

You're very welcome . Its good that it worked out this time, I quite enjoyed it (though I'm a bit tired now)*. Hopefully it'll become a regular event.

*might have something to do wih late-ish night last night plus having to get up about nine this morning combined with walking around 2.5k to get back from the station...

We discussed a variety of things including... mental blank, sorry . I do remember that didu demoed his Blender Movie Maker (still on this computer o' mine), and talking about various scripts and talking about plenty of other stuff.

Anyway, I'll leave it at this for now and maybe give something more detailed later.

Seeing as I'm a 15 yr old Sydney residing guy. I don't think I can go let alone have the guts or anything that could take me there so record the event if you can or want to please so i can know if this is worth going to.

Yep, Every so often would be great. Seems some people didnt make it to this one because they didnt find out in time.

How about we set up a mailing list? I guess we'd mainly discuss times and such but it means we dont need to keep checking on a thread, and easier for others to join.
