Storyline :
==========
Greetings!

Welcome to 2048....

Every doomsday prediction has come true!

To save the human race you must take the mother ship to the star system Max-xion.

Protect the mother ship at all costs.

Mine energy from the asteroids and UFO's to survive.

You will get 3 mine balls to begin with, don't let the ball hit the mother ship or the bottom of the screen.

as always, you only get 1 life, so dont run into things with the spaceship.

collect energy for ammo
collect health for more life
collect 100 coins for free ball.

Controls:
================
Mouse movement- Padle left and right.
Mouse movement- Crosshair up and down.

Ball english- Left or right mouse button.
Ball move down- Both left and right buttons.

Death ray- Q W E, left, both, center.
Chaingun- A S D, left, center, right.
Doomsday bomb- Z C, left right

R- restart game
Esc- universal quit game

Screen shots:
============

Trivia:
========
The game is 100% autonomous , it will keep getting faster up to the 8th wave of UFO's and stay at that speed until you loose the game.

The game was inspired mainly by the 1981 Intellivision classic "Astrosmash"
http://www.mobygames.com/game/intellivision/astrosmash
there are inspirations from many other classic games too.
Breakout, arkanoid, asteroids, galaga, space invaders, etc....

Sounds 100% generated in Audacity... no recorded samples (why the *.WAV files are all so small)

Known bugs:
===========
first ball will shoot down very quickly for some reason.

Scene load times are long, I might add a "Preaching, or Loading" shroud over level 1 and the score scene... might make it look less choppy.

space ship "jumps" when the round first begins.

Tips:
=======
Use the chaingun as much as possible... the other weaponds drain the energy very fast.

Get used to the mouse button for the ball movement... you can save lots of ammo by getting the ball on top of the asteroid field.

Certain color asteroids give different pickups...

Only small asteroids give pickups...

The Game

Have fun!!
Feel free to post your high scores 8)

it is released under the (CC) licence, so feel free to use anything you like in your own games ... or add onto this one

looks really good from the screenies, I'm DLing now but probably won't play it for a while yet.

Just out of curiosity, what does 'preaching' mean (aside from sharing religious opinions with the masses- I have a feeling it doesn't mean that in the computer sense)

Hi Dakka Dakka,

Great, glad you like the game
nice to see someone already Modifying the game, Have fun 8)

Greetings Captain Oblivion!
Be sure to watch the credits at the first of the game 8)
I have no idea what preaching means.... a few games in the past use the phrase...
to me it means that the game is loaded, it just needs to put everything in place and start...
I am probably wrong about that tho, I should look it up before using it.

Hi Citnarf!
that is a great compliment, I am glad you had fun with it

To all:

If you are having performance issues with this game try looking under Game>enable all frames... then press control W to save it so you wont have to set it again.
This will speed up the game a bit so I only suggest doing this if you are having problems.

glad you like it, thanks for the music comment it is my first attempt re-mixing my noises into music
the generate>beat track in audacity and the repeat filter makes it more easy

I like the interface, it fits well with the game. It's nice to see people working on more old school type games, it brings back a lot of memories = ) (i feel old now...)

Hey! thank you ven0mSevenX

yea I miss al lthe oldschool games :/

in a few minuets, I am going to get this running with the blender player for windows...
Sorry, I have the camera too close for the blender player :/
think I may tryy adding the load screen's too to help performance...

later I am going to attempt it in Linux blender player too ... god I hope the sounds port over 8)

I may make a GPL version (if that is possible) so people can include this game in their Linux distributions

Hey p00f, nice game. It's quite challenging to fight off the ships, keep the ball up, destroy the asteriods, and manage resources all at once.

I had one small problem and one big one. The small problem is that the status bars on the side didn't seem to disply correctly for me (oh, and in the BlenderPlayer, the "Game Over" text doesn't display, though it does when played from Blender).

The big problem I experienced had something to do with "static-static collisions" or something. The console kept yelling at me about them, and the game started bogging down. My framerate dropped steadily, and after a while I couldn't play the game because the response had slowed down too much. I'm not sure how to fix that.

Overall I enjoyed your game though, and I thought the sounds were great.

yea!
I love playing with audacity..

I am getting pretty quick at it now. Wish I could find more sound effect tutorials...

Everything I find involved tweaking samples.

Uploading another update now... will be done by the time I post this... same link above...

Getting some good feedback from the community tonight...
thanks every one

Great game, although a little bit confusing (so many things happening at the same times) !

It seams it's season of arcade at blenderartist forum

Did a little testing this morning on my break on some of the office computers...

Max-xion will run fine on a pentium 3, with only 256 Ram under windows
in Debian I am having some sound issues.... looks like it is time to install ubuntu on this old system...

it also works great on the bosses X2 dual core +4800 system in windows x64 .

If anyone has an older system around, please give it a test run
I would love to hear if this will work on an old 128M ram linux system.

everything I tested was Nvidia based gfx adapters .... any ATI , intel people out there?

thanks

I don't know any, but one good way to get generated sounds is with one of those programs that emulates analog synths. There are a lot of free ones.
i havn't tried the game yet but all the things I've checked out of yours have been great.

Cool!

Thank you bookeater!!

I am going to go google that now

Audacity only has a MIDI thing for generating instrument sounds (sounds like cel-phone ring-tones )

wow!

Found a nasty little collision bug with the ship spawner... it was leaving its self in the level rather than terminating :/

think I may spend a little more time today going over the final details...
