Hi,

as some might already know, I've been working on a new image and preview browser.
If you've seen a testing build, you will have noticed that there are some blank places where it would be nice to show an icon for folders for example. Since I'm not much of an artist, I'm looking for some help there, my try is less than nice

Here's a short list of the icons that I'm aware of that are needed as a first step:

1. Folder
2. Parent Folder
3. Refresh Folder
4. Blender files (might use blender icon for that one)
5. Movie files
6. Sound files

I've settled on the size 48x48 for the moment, this is the size used in the above picture.

Also needed are icons for the Action, Armature, Camera, Image,..., Object, Scene, Text, World folders when appending/linking, but these I might be able to lift from the
existing Blender icons.

Let me know if you have a little time to provide at least the first 6 icons for now.

Thanks,

Andrea

Oh, thanks, good point forgot to mention format. Best would be png, that's what I also used in my preliminary icons.

In my opinion this is good solution. Human mind (remember) based on associations. These same icons symbolize right Blender's stuff !

P.S. It would be also nice if your Image Browser icons will based on icons theme for Blender !!! It will make Image Browser ready for personal settings

you know you could just use one of the open source ones, like tango or oxygen.

here's a few that I made a while ago. Not sure if it's exactly 48x48 though.

Basse is very picky about what he wants. he wants the next big thing beyond glassy shinyness, he wants SSS, transparency and mega use of AO. if it doesn't meet those three requirements we shouldn't bother.

Shinyness is what VISTA is. I wish not shinyness either. I like borders, like cellshading stuff.
Nice old Super Nintendo pixel sprites. Those are cool icons, though =).

My idea is according to the good old elysiun colours.

Thanks for the icons, some are quite nice. I agree with basse though that they should fit Blender style and not be too shiny/glassy etc.

I did a second attempt myself this morning, think they're already better, what do you think?

But keep them coming, I'll make a patch one of the next days and include the ones I like best

thanks!

Just one question: everyone knows that there's UI touch up in the way. It will cover GUI icons redesign as well, so it's getting obvious (for me at least) that, in order to preserve GUI overall consistency, the Image Browser icons should become a part of custom icon set (http://blenderartists.org/forum/show...ighlight=icons ; http://blenderartists.org/forum/show...ighlight=icons)
I realize, that it would result in total icon set sheet redesign, but it's the goal. Isn't it?

For the blenderlogo, you should use this one:

It's the nicest one I've seen up to this point. Note: I can't remember who made this, so if it's yours, or you recognise who made it, let everybody know, the creator deserves credit.

Anyway, I second the notion that jendrzych should be in charge of creating the new iconset for blender. He has done some beautiful work so far.

@ M@dcow
Thx for nice words, but it wasn't my goal

Now what I'll say may look a little bit off topic, but in core it's related to New Image Browser topic.
Do we rally need a separate Image Browser? I wonder about that since it's not real Image Browser (such as ACDSee or IrfanView are) but just File Browser displaying thumbnails.
My point is to get rid of the Image Browser Window and just enhance the File Browser with some new functions:
- toggling thumbnails / file list / file details views (for example just as Ms Windows' Explorator does) instead one button toggling "long info" which is unclear;
- file list and file details views displaying just icons of file types (python scripts, image, blender file, common file, text, etc...) - now it's hard to manage what is what without reading file names...
- displaying miniature of an image after mouse right-click or sth. like that..

Besides it appears inconsistent for me, that only folder, image, film, sound and blender file should have their icons. What about:
- blender backup files (*.blend1)
- text files,
- python scripts,
- "other files" and so on? (ok, maybe "other files" should not have an icon just to not obfuscate the overall structure of files that Blender's user is interested in).

BTW, why not let Blender reuse system icons - this way it would better fit into environment it actually works in.
