Well, It's a Brassy Trumpet really!!!
But it got your attention. I thought I would have a break from my usual engineering type stuff this week and came up with this. Updated materials following C & C ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for the input.

Extremely good modeling work!
My only crit would be the textures. They look to plastic-like. But very nice anyway! //Mathias

wow, great render.
the top (full) one looks a little plastic-y yet...dont know how u could fix that tho. the close up brass looks ok imo. too orange tho...could be a little more yellow. in the last pic u can see the sharp edges of the one knob/valve/stopper thing (gotta work on my trumpet terminology )what are your material settings for the cloth?

Wooah, _this_ is amazing! The level of detail is fantastic! The close-ups are great, Nice DoF.
Two crits from me: The textures doesn't exactly look like gold. The nut-type thingies on the water outlets have some edges which I think don't belong there. Should be round, I guess. Yt, Gunnar |

I'm lovin the trumpet itself, even the materials, but I don't know about the folded...whatever, that it's sitting on. It needs to be more cloth-like, i.e. the trumpet should be making a more prominent impression on it. Right now it looks like the trumpet is just kinda hovering. And plus, the cloth looks like it's trying to be both soft cloth and hard plastic at the same time...if you were actually going for a hard bump-mapped plastic, then I'd keep the material and shader settings and smooth out all the folds.

Really great modeling, but I would also say that the textures look too much like plastic. The shiny effect is in it's place but something makes them look plastic.
![]() But hey, awesome modeling and great render's overall. Keep up the good work!

Those valves are awesome. You must play trumpet.

nice model detail, but the valves that you had a close-up on show some polygons, and the material defiently needs some work. Overall great, just a couple tweaks will make this top-notch.

great job. I'm also an engineer (almost, 1 year of school left) but I find blender hard to use to do models with precise measurements. although you can create some much nicer renders with it.
I like your attention to detail and that cloth texture looks amazing.

Looks Good, 4 stars, i dont know about plastic but the texture of the brass is defenitly wrong, if you look at brass its not usually that brass!
usually a lot brighter and silvery

I played with the materials for at least twice as long as it took to model the trumpet and still only managed a plastic-copper effect.
I have re worked the materials following your spot on comments. I think it looks a little more golden and metallic now. I really need my copy of the new Blender Book, I hope it has got a good section on materials!

Wow, I actually liked the material before, but now it looks absolutely amazing. Spot-on brass! The only possible thing I could think of to make the model even more believable is to add bits of tarnish here and there, make it seem used, but obviously you're going for that freshly polished/new trumpet look, and it's perfect. I like how you darkened the lighting of the cloth, too, looks a lot better and keeps the focus more heavily set on the actual trumpet.
Great work! |

The model is spot on. And I really like the detail.
And I allso know that making brass is a b**ch in blender, and I don't think you really managed to pull it off. I prefer the original material. But I can't do anny bether (look at my sig there is some "brass" in the turntable on the second page). Cheers

Awesome! Really nice that you went down with all the materials again and made it better. Then rendered it again. That is really admirable.
The trumpet looks really fantastic now, and it looks much more golden and metallic as you said. Good job!!!

hmm better but imo the red reflections still make it look too yellow.
were u going to share the cloth material settings?

Yea, much better, but I think it could still be a little more reflective.
