nice, but i dont liike those colors.. it's too much like a rainbow. In reality
the colors are mixed in the window, cos the windows are pictures.

Cool! You should call it Rainbow Cathedral of the Perpetually Levitating Monks. This is sooo different than the direction thought this was going. Surprising, nice finish.

other? Mmm.. I cannot see where I can add others, except maybe below the windows of the nave... mmm....

Polys? The one you see something more than 1 million vertices, and the Monks are subsurfed, so in rendering even more.

I Have a more detailed version in the hat, for future use, which is 2 millions vertices when rendering (due to subsurfs, again)

The picture looks pretty good, but I think that the lighting (actually the colors) and the flying monks are a lack of reality ...btw some "stone" textures would be nice, too.

But the ceiling and the columns look really great!
Must have been a lot of work to model...

The model of the cathedral is spot on, but the lighting spoils the realism IMO. Tone down the colours severly, much less saturation needed. THis will give it a subtle effect. Also, try adding some lightsources around the walls, like candle stands. And make the ambient lighting in the cathedral much darker, so it gives it a moddy feel. You could have some light sources further up the columns as well, so that the flying monks cast shadows on them. And maybe get rid of a few monks, there are too many. 3 or 4 would do.

nice sepia! I really like the floating monks too, reminds me a little bit of rene magritte stuff, but not too much, because the surroundings you have there, the actual cathredral, looks like a photo.. the monks jump up juuust a bit, perhaps because they are SO black. otherwise even the monks would look quite real, like couple of them on the right.

I think my mind is playing tricks on me, but the monk on the upper left, looks strangely small?

Man, that is so prettywetty. I like the way how the colors cast on the floors and walls and pillars. Very nice.
From that angle the sepia shot looks better tough.

Here is a little idea of sorts, maybe tone down the ligths a bit and put somebody kneeling on the altar, lookin upwards. Then there could be a shadow casted by one of the monks, when he's walking to see, what troubles the kneeled person.

But good, very good.

for me the colours of the windows takes something away , its distracting

the sepia version "rocks"

i enjoy its moody, ethereal feeling

The sepia version is definitely awesome. :P

Maybe a bit more "sepia" for the monks and the one or other monk in the foreground. %|

nice work! The Sepia one looks more like it *could* be a real photo, at least of the architecture. But I like the rainbow one, it adds more to the absurdity of the floating monks.

I love it, and since I can't do anything like it, I will criticize one thing...
I think the robes of the monks should be a little more 'wavy' in their silhouettes.
But other than that, this is a most excellent showcase of talent and the ability of Blender. 8)

Guys, I really read back all my post here and on the WIP forum. When ever I said that I care for realism :P ?

Thanx for critics, anyway

They're dupliverted so... It is surely an effect of the wide angle camera lenses. (It's a 25mm, not the standard 35mm)

Hehe, and I'll have to render it 8000x6000 to notice those details

Yup, the robe is so low diffusing that waves are almost lost, in the WIP forum there are close ups

To me Magritte and the other Surrealists are the first CG artist, though without a C.

Wonder what they would have made with blender ?
