I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I'll have a go at it anyway.
I recently upgraded the motherboard, chip, and hard drive on my computer. Blender ran fine before, but now it slows down incredibly after only 5 minutes of use. I've tried installing Python and downloading other Blender versions, but nothing worked. Has anyone experienced this before or knows how to fix it? I'm greatful for every idea. |

Most common answer is you need to update your video card drivers. Go to manufacturer site and get latest ones.
Might also be your Open GL settings and or turn off video acceleration .

%| HMM, I have the same symptom, after 5 minutes I wait a minute for menu to open, not usable, but i have the latest omegadrivers for my card, I'll have to check later on, maybe it's
the windowed mode or some commandline thing. Can I see in Blender, which grafix-devices it is using ?! thanks, jono

For fast-acting relief, try slowing down. |

No luck. When I checked the drivers using the script you linked to, it gave me this:

I've just noticed that it slows down in the 3d window long before the buttons slow. |

When I use the standard catalyst drivers everything runs perfect, in my case it was
the omega driver release thanks, jono

Thanks, but I alredy have the latest Catalyst...
The only thing I don't understand is that it ran fine before. It's a pci card, too, because my last motherboard didn't have agp.Pci is one of the most standard things on a motherboard, unlike agp... right?(I'm probably wrong... %| ) One of the reasons I upgraded was FOR blender... funny how the world works... |

If you have a set of firmware-revisions that worked, the best thing, you can do to find out, is
to downgrade all that software step-by-step and test. This failure is easy to reproduce, so it should be possible to detect the cause. And As long as you haven't previously added the the PCI-Card since the failure I would ignore this fact. BTW: I'm pretty sure, that nowadays PCI's and AGP's implementation is doing pretty well throughout manufacturers. Gotta keep on, jono
