From the performance reports, it's apparent that I'm not the only one having issues with an ATI card and blender. Anyone know what the status of this issue is?

It would be interesting to know if ATI even knows about this problem, or if they just don't care. In addition to ATI problems with Blender, my Radeon seems to be very slow with milkshape3D. I tried to contact ATI trough support and the driver feedback thingies, and so have others, but with no luck. Anybody have some new info on this?

For solutions to make Blender run bit better with Radeon, you might try reading trough the topics in my singature below.

I was hoping to make use of the new features of the newer Blenders, and I don't just use this computer for this purpose, but I do realize that ATI most likely shares a good deal of the blame for the problem. I am very happy with my card performance wise, but it seems that every new game or app that comes out underscores some new weakness in ATI's drivers, prompting another monthlong wait for new Catalysts. I have followed some of the advice mentioned here and it is running a LITTLE bit better, but still nowhere near fluidly.

Thanks anyways.

hello folks,

yes the problem is a head ache.

but a very simple solution exists.
ONLY use catalyst version 3.9 only.

don't use anything else until it's reported the problems gone. and no , 4.4 ain't fixed it either.

i recommend using python scipt 2.2.3 to be on the safe side (not the most up to date one, i know.)

i recommend MANUALLY entering the registry and finding the settings under HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENTCONTROLSET/CONTROL/VIDEO , and then find the 3.9 driver entry. You want to then go to Opengl settings and you want to make sure OGLAnisotype, OGLenableFastFullSceneAA, OGLEnableTripleBuffering, OGLForceZBufferdepth, OGLFullSceneAAscale, OGLMaxanisotrophy, OGLtrueform and OGLWaitVerticalSync are ALL SET TO '0', i.e OFF! [!]

reboot! :Z

this may pick things up a touch.

but certainly 3.9 to one to go for if you don't want the slow down effect. i also got terrible slow down in the UV/Texture editor window while trying to move a tiny 45k jpg around! and this on a twin MP2200 system that's solid as a rock? bad buggy buggy. and there's my old Matrox G400 MAX sat in it's box, beggin to be used!

hope this helps.

Simply make the decision once and for all: Change your supplier! As you did with software (Windows was buggy, closed, and sucked, so you changed to Linux), change from ATI (which is buggy, closed AFAIK, and sucks) to NVidia :)

Well, I was reading a magazine the other day, and I saw a story for a guy who develops his own drivers based on the catalyst drivers.

His website:
http://www.omegacorner.com/index.html

I didn't find much on specs of what it has, but from the site and the article it sounds like it may support OpenGL better. If somebody is willing to try these out on their machine (I have not done so yet), let us know how it goes.

Hey why don't people stop making duplicated threads like these and many others, and just search and read and get their answers that way?
