I am completely new to Blender but it looks very cool. I have experience with Maya, Houdini, Truespace etc. What I was wondering was, should I get the GameKit and install 2.24/2.25 and start learning with that? Or, can I use this book with 2.33 or has too much changed? Would it be better to get comfortable with 2.25 and then make the transition up. I am looking forward to getting the Manual 2.3 when it is available here. Anyway, any advice would be very appreciated before I start diving into this intriguing looking software!

If it's the gameengine you're going to work with I would say that 2.25 is the best bet. For now the engine in 2.33 have some problems(that are being worked on) and when you're in a learnig phase you got enough problems as it is. If you want to create standalone exe's you have to use 2.25.
The Gamekit and demos can now be downloaded from: http://www.blender3d.org/cms/Game_en...ics.212.0.html So, my tip is: download the GameKit and the demos and start learning with 2.25 and it won't be any big problems moving on to future releases. No harm in looking into 2.33 though. |
