I'm starting a new female face. It might become a whole new female mesh.

I have an idea for a character, but there are many things about my old female mesh I know I could do better. We'll see where this goes.

I started off with some dental charts so I could sculpt the mouth in a relaxed position. the teeth in front are individual teeth. I took all afternoon with tweeking them until I was satisfied. The teeth at the back of the mouth are good enough to pass at a glance.

more to come

Looking good so far.

Interesting approach, because the teeth are still missing in my Yamo character and you're starting with'em .

Your last female was already very good work, I'm looking forward to see this girl 'growing'.

I thought I would put a few of the face features in place to me help follow the stucture. I considered building a (simplified) skeleton as a tool for building over, but not this time.

Even though it's very early, I can tell this is going to be a good character. The level of detail is awesome.

Thanks. The edgeloops are falling into place nicer on this one. I should be able to do a bit of face animation. The other female model was ok, but had a a few hidden tris in the face.

I dunno. You tell me.

Cheap lights, low rez jpeg for texture, but still... not too shabby. This is just a quick test, nothing final in this picture.

As for the final mesh, It will probably have some changes done so it's not so close in appearance. Copying her expresions and manerisms in an animation would be difficult beyond my abilities, so I'd rather not create the expectation. This is going to be a character, so I'll take the freedom at some point to do my own thing.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Always appreciated.

Wow. Are there any tuts on that kind of modelling? How do you start? How do you continue? I was watching the Superman thread and wondering this too. How do you start something like this? mesh plane? NO idea. Any nudges in the right direction would be appreciated.

This looks AMAZING, by the way. I can't wait to see how it comes out. Keep us posted.

This is getting very nice. The wireframe shows how good you have become with faceloops - clean, detailed where it's necessary and no triangles - just great!

There's a very nice tut right on this site: http://www.elysiun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21066

Download or draw pictures of what you are going to build. For this face you've seen the front and side shots I'm using. Get yourself something similar. Also a good 3/4 shot is good for refining the shape of the cheeks, forehead. Like this one:

Look at the face, people. The face.

Study how other people design their edgeloops. I haunt 2 3d sites everyday - this one and cgtalk. I'm always saving copies of jpgs that have quality edgeloops, good modeling. Topography is software independant and you can study Maya models, lightwave. Here's a great example of how a face doesn't need a million polys to be good: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php...6&page=1&pp=15

Some more of my recent favorites -
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=141461
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php...5&page=1&pp=15

Here's a great one of Ahnuld, but notice the modeler is using triangles. Avoid those. He's not using Blender.
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=73780

And this is YOU MUST review, bookmark, and revisit often. it's Maya, but has awesome the mesh design.

Thanks. I still have some shape refinement to work on. I'm mainly focused on the edgeloops at this point. I can pull on shapes all I want later.

Where's the face?!

That thread by d-tox is an amazing work. I have seen it many times and actually posted a few replies on his male character thread. Which is also superb. Excellent use of poly's to get the desired effect.

Thanks for that Arnold thread. I hadn't seen that one before. Great references in that one.

Thanks for sharing the ref pics. I may use them, down the road. I need to work on my head modelling skills again. Haven't done one in some time. But I have other female characters to finish first. %|

Very nice work, good, simple wireframe. Even from unfinished model you can recognize her ;] Given threads are very usefull, thanks.
Modelling by reference like this gives an idea to take digital camera, take few shots of some prety girl (or maybe yourself? or whatever) and model. Like "self portrait" :]
Btw, in the first given reference you can see, that her face is asymetric (like all natural faces). Just for interest - which side do you use, left or right? ;]
