Last week I put a test animation of water in the WIP forum. It was well received and many asked for a tutorial. Yesterday I had the time to make one. Have fun!

it reminds me of cog'swater tute...
(its at the bottom in the tutorials section...)

i think that the two used in conjunction are great...

yours is simpler and good for getting a body of water like a lake..

his is good for ocean scenes...

thank you very much for sharing

Regards,
~Delta

Sorry, the diffuse reflection is called "Ref". I changed it in the tutorial.

Thanks very much for the tut, it is excellent I'm having a problem with it though, even setting the ofz curve to linear in the ipo window, the water still doesn't animate properly. It starts slowish, then speeds up in the middle, and then slows down again. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Most likely you didn't change it for both wave texture channels. The texture channels are accessed through the number next to the IPO type field when it is set to Material. I updated the tut with this info.

It sounds to me like you forgot to change the IPO curves to linear. In the IPO window, put your mouse over the curves, press Tab to go into edit mode, select a curve (or A to select all), Then select Curve from the header, then Interpolation Mode and finally Linear. This will keep the action from slowly starting and slowly ending. The action will be at a constant speed.
