I heard referance to some new features being adde to the outliner in ver. 2.37 and since I'm not too farmiliar with using the outliner window at all, even in older version I thought I would ask a few Q's
1) I know you can use the outliner to select objects and data blocks and the like, but can you say, take a texture that''s linked to sphere 'A' and link it up to sphere 'D' using the outliner? In other words, is the outliner just for showing you how the data blocks are linked up, or can you use it to change those links? 2) When the outliner is set to show the "Oops Scematic, I noticed that datablocks of deleted objects were displayed, just not linked to anything. Is it possible to 'undelete' these objects, or are those datablock just shown for looks or something? |

Rather the wrong answer there, reread the question.
when you unlink a datablock it is not deleted immediately, so you can link it to something else (eg for a material you can just select it from the dropdown in materialbuttons). Howeer they are not saved, so to delete them completely, you must unlink them, then save and reload (Ctrl+S, Ctrl+O) To save a block with no links, select it and press F - which will give it a fake user so it will still be saved.

Ah..ok, thanks. Further qeustion: I see in the Oops outliner that there are datablocks for deleted meshes...any way to get those to re-appear? You can't access them through any dropdown boxes like you can an unlinked texture as far as I know.

Add another mesh, say a plane, then in object mode go to edit buttons (F9) and choose the mesh from the dropdown in the Link and Materials panel.
