I've read some post about blender runs slowly on ati card, i have this problem with an ati radeon express 200 integrated video card.
For me, the atioglxx.dll method from catalyst 3.9 doesn't works, Blender immediately crash, so i had an idea... I tried to get the nvidia openGL driver from 53.03 (nvoglnt.dll) rename it to atioglxx.dll and put it in blender directory, and surprise! Blender runs very fast like in my old computer with GeForce! I don't know if this method is already posted from someone, there are a lot of topic about this problem and i don't read all. I only hope this is useful for somebody that have my same problem.
P.S. I know... my english is poor
bye

i have an ati radeon 9200 and have never had any ui slowdowns
except without the newest drivers the textures are like in 256 color mode they have bands instead of a gradient except i'll have to try what you suggested

I find, after a while the prformance begins to grind. However if I save my work and rerun Blender it runs very smooth again.

Thanx Xenobius
I have same ati radeon express 200 integrated video card. Your solution works.

Blender 2.37 was very slow on my machine. But 2.4 runs a whole lot better now with your modification 2.4 runs as wells as my old machine

If your english was any better i would have been lost.

(until you mentioned it i would have been able to tell that english is not your mother tounge)[/quote]

Can anyone describe to me what is the ATI slow bug? I have a Radeon 9700 Pro (windows XP and latest 5.13 catalyst driver). Never had problem with performance, UIs are very responsive and game engines runs great, (500+ fps for an enpty scene)

The only minor slow down I see of is the pannels in the "button window". When i drag them around, it lags a bit and doesn't feel as smooth as it should. maybe around 10fps?

But then, everything feels much better than the time I had a Geforce4MX.

I seem to recall that Blender pre-2.23? was very buggy on my ATi and slows down jsut as maniacs described.

But i'll try the above method once I get home :P Extra performance is always good, right?

(used the link provided by marty d) is this the newest one?

that didnt work for me, made it worse. normall i can put 50,000 particles in before it makes the lag unbearable as it starts to decline, with this i could only go to 5000

The link is not the newest one however the newest one 77.** doesn't work for me.

This one did work, however it actually decreased performance, for me at least.

It's just too bad ATI can't write libraries for their own hardware. All the more reason to avoid ATI altogether. The Nvidia work around also fixed a problem with some weird overlapping display. When I ran the mchs accelerated build from graphicall.org blender would display 5 or 6 overlapped windows at the same time. You could see 5 or 6 mouse pointers at once. Nvidia driver fixed that and the msvc accelerated build rendered at about the same rate as the Intel build. That is good performance.

Hi all,

I have an ATI Radeon X600 Express. I tried with the last Nvidia version of the nvoglnt.dll but I got an Nvidia message saying the drivers are not at the right version or something like that and blender stops immediately. I tried with an older version (may 2002) and it is slower than with the ATI driver. Where may I find the dll from the 53.03 driver version as mentioned by Xenobius ?

Thanks

Here's a sobering thought from zero d

Probably all we're actually seeing when the ati driver is replaced is the total lack of an open gl accelerator. Ah well. That explains why frame rates are so low. Sorry to say.

Doesn't slow down my frame rate, it starts out as fast as it normally did, so i don't see the problem? and once and for all ATI cards are not bad, the only background program it runs is Catalyst and that is if you even download it, and catalyst can help your performance issues. I have an ATI radeon x800 pro card, overclocks very well, and have had no problems whatso ever, except for blender, but this fixed it. So ATI haters can stick it!!!, before you spam me with hate mail do realize, i never said any other graphics card companies were bad.

I just installed the driver from omega http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php
Made a big difference. Fuzzy panels fixed, frame rate up. That place has been around for a while but the last time I tried there were problems. Worth a shot, but be sure to make a system restore point (not even sure that would fix) before you install. ymmv.
