Hey all...

Posted a 30 minute blender video, The Last Outpost. Comments or questions... would like to hear from people... skpjason@yahoo.com

The movie is a video graphic novel... not straight moviemaking... the storyline centers around man's ascension into the cosmos. Made with Blender, the animation was rendered on a p3 600 mhz Dell machine with 128 megs of ram. Audio and video editing was done on a p4 2.6 ghz 1 gig ram machine.

A 18 meg (30 min.) video file is here:
http://www.elysiun.com/~theeth/TLOweb.wmv

I have a nice higher res divx zip file HERE!!!!!
http://antihc3.dynu.com/skpjason/TLOdivx.avi.bz2
for this link above you need winrar to uncompress... linux users should know the drill... this link above is only 168 megs!

This link will give you a 200 meg divx file...
http://rendermonitor.no-ip.com/mirror/TLOdivx.avi

also... go to the following link to get info on how to download the 200 meg divx from a newsgroup. Thanks to Oldin for this...
http://www.elysiun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10836

the next link may or may not work depending on bandwidth...
http://skpjason.250free.com/TLOdivx.zip

A lot of people are being really nice and donating bandwidth and serverspace. Please be patient while attempting to download... some links may not work due to excessive traffic. I'll try to keep these links updated on a timely basis.

Thanks to theeth,Matt from reblended.com, as well as antihc3 and Appolonius for the webspace... AND A BIG SHOUT OUT TO STEPHEN2002 FOR WEBSPACE.

If anyone wants to help the cause (free entertainment for blender community) and provide additional hosting.. lemme know..

That was pretty trippy and timely to say the least. Good to see you got a place for your flick. Good to hear you're in good health. Live well, live long.

omg... i... can hardly.... believe it... gawd... finally!!!

downloading it now...
dont you think this should be posted at finished projects...? i dunno...
didnt you say once that TLO is almost over 1 hour? i guess this is the edited version then... must've been hard work... awesome.

andy after he watched tlo:

amazing movie... but the compression is really bad
could you also make a good quality divx version? i wouldnt mind downloading it, even if it was 50 mb. and the quality of divx is amazing compared to file sizes...

Awesome short!!

I think that good work do need a compression with more quality because the detail don't see well with the actual compression level.

Sweet!! I've been waiting for this a long time. The first long movie made with Blender I've ever seen. I'm watching it now. The credits are amazing.

Just finished watching it and I have three words for you: So very cool! I find it fitting that you release this today, the day that the U.S. will likely declare war on Iraq. I would love to see a version that isn't compressed so much. Big round of applause of SKPjason!

@ndy - in reference to your question... TLO originally ran about 2 hours long. However... I edited it down to a half hour so that I could enter it into the siggraph animation festival - I thought it had a better chance of being accepted if it wasnt so long. I do plan however to put a full version on the dvd release I'm currently working on.

Goo... yes.. I found it fitting to release this on the date we Americans try to show the world that our foul-smelling crap really don't stink (idiot politicians).

Hopefully, as the month progresses I'll find ways to post larger res versions. There were quite a few scenes that had some awesome stuff going on - but because of compression detail was TOTALLY lost - especially on some of the really neat Dynamica particle effects I used.

Grrrreat work! I am absolutely stunned!
I only would've complained about the compression level, but now I'll just wait for higher-rez versions

Yeah - I'm waiting for the higher resolution version myself. It seemed very impressive, but I was often distracted my audio artifacts and lack of clarity in the picture.

I couldn't do something like this in a million years.

I'll be happy to host larger versions/longer versions...more versions...whatever...of this video. I am just so happy to see something so big done for no-profit finally come to a close!

PM or e-mail me if you would like me to host any files.

Ok, first I'll say that it is a great acomplishment and an interesting story. Nothing needs to be changed, but there is always another project on the horizon so here is what didn't work for me:

It is very hard to get the balanced between the sound effects and the voice correct. It would appear that you didn't quite get it right. There were a number of times where I couldn't make out the voices due to the distortion and the overlapping sound effects. In a narrative piece like this it is very important to hear the voice. If you want to apply distortions, great...but make sure that the voices is understandable in all situations. That was the only thing that really bothered me.

The visuals, through the blur, looked good. I will be able to provide better comment when I see the high-res.
