Fox

That’s probalby one of the best examples of Blender’s fur, really good work! I was wondering about the thickness of its leg and its chest but perhaps it’s just the matter of animal’s age and sex.

Wow, that’s looking great! A lot better than what I’ve done at least…Where did you get that texture? I’m trying to model a stylized wolf and I have no idea whatsoever where to get a good texture for it.

wow that a really nice texture :stuck_out_tongue: is it from a photo?

Look forward to seeing the progress

rozmiarek, wow thank you so much! It’s nice to read this from a great artist, just to say, I’m a fan of your works. About the legs, I will take a look on some references and revise this.

Owl Dude, thanks! I used some high resolution images from google search and then in Blender, I projected the imagens on my model, also using texture paint and clone brush to creating the texture. And in Photoshop I was putting the parts together and refining the texture. I went back and forth, in Blender and Photoshop, working with different parts and images.
I used imagens like this: http://minus.com/mbpAJ426Dg/1f

bacon_chaney, thank you. Yes, I create the texture using photos, like in the link above.

This looks great!
I didnt quite understood how you managed to develop the texture so perfectly though

Wow, amazing. I love it!
The problems with the legs could be because the model (and some of your references) shows a young fox. So the anatomy is good I think. Perhaps there could be some improvement in the shape where the scalpulas meet. There is always a kind of “hole” between the neck and the scalpulas if his head is lifted.

(Sorry for my weird english)

Is there a feature in Photoshop where you can “unwrap” an image and slide different parts around? I don’t have Photoshop but I’m thinking about getting it soon.

Very nice work on the texture. The fur looks good, but your fur strands seems to stop very abruptly, perhaps mapping a simple blend ramp to your strands alpha with your alpha all the way to zero would highly increase the look of your fur, as well as proper lighting. All in all, its a really nice fox you made there  Can’t wait to see it rigged and animated

Happy Blending

piccobello, thanks! I will try make a video showing my process/workflow to this texture, I think would be nice, since you more people are asking about that.

Gwinna, thank you for the feedback! I agree, I will work more on the shapes and definetely the scapulas will make the difference.

Owldude, I only use the Photoshop to put together the images I project in my modeling, for this I create two UV’s, one optimized layout and another for unwrap as I want, so I can map any part separately and projecting from one UV to another. Look at the link I post with some images and try to identify the parts I used in my model.

JeannotLandry, thanks for the tips! I will use the alphas later, because it will increase a bit the render time. Wait, she will be animated, at least a walk or run cycle. I will post more updates soon!

Updating… Work more on texture, fur and also create the texture of the eye.

And here is the texture I create for the eyes.

That is really incredible. I don’t know how it could possibly improve, it looks almost 100% photorealistic.

Owldude, thank dude!

Here some ambient occlusion:

Very nice work if i say so myself

Nice shaggy fur and the eyes are very impressive.

Nice work Lucas, the fur is masterful. This is turning out really nice.

Lucas: Great work  I still think you should map a blend texture to the fur since it appears really sharp, even in the AO. It would greatly improve the realism of the fur  The eyes also needs more reflection, perhaps use an image to fake reflection by making your shader mirror, and adding an image mapped into the reflection with a .05color and 2 to 4 or mirror, would make the eyes appear like that have water in them, which should be the case really. Other then that, its a really nice model, great texture, great uvs, can’t wait to see it rigged and in movement

Happy Blending

collinsboy, thanks!

Gwinna, thank you, I’m posting more pics of the eyes now.

3dementia, thanks you for the kind words.

JeannotLandry, I’m fixing all this things, yesterday I added some spec maps to create some specularity to the nose and around the eyes. Also I start testing eye reflections with HDR images. Big thanks for the feedback, really appreciate.

  • Just to say, there are two eye equal, my bad.

Lucas: You can also fake eyes reflection by taking a simple environment picture, make it black and white, also contrast it alot, and bring that in blender and map it to the reflection, with a low color value or like .1 or lower, and a mirror of 2-4. It will render a lot faster then actual HDRI. Good job on everything btw, this looks great

Happy Blending

Start making some tests with grass, just with hair particles. Needed create more variations, in size and colors… :spin:

Love that type of color grade.
